    removing teak deck 1995 GB

Where are you located? I have a bunch of never used 3"x3/4 inch Burma teak in lengths around 10 to 20 ft, they have a 1/4 inch caulking groove cut in to one corner. I am in the PNW. M

    Sticker shock AGAIN!

Even West Marine, (which is notoriously expensive) has it at half that price.

shipping company recommendatons from Wisconsin to upstate New York

That is actually a pretty easy trip,no real open water other than the trip across Lake Huron, and by the time you get to the Erie Canal you should have plenty of experience and confidence for the locks. It is a nice trip I have done it a time or two and always enjoyed it. M

    Upgrading My Water System

Often times a weak faucet is simply a clogged screen on the end of the faucet. They screw off easilly and are easy to clean. Good idea to clean them every six months or so.

    Single handed 38 pilothouse

Yes, I have had thrusters on many vessels. I built an 80’ Frers cutter with a retractable bow thruster which I rarely used. I found it handy backing into slips but it took a lot of room and gear and I would not have missed it much. I was project manager/Captain on a 157 ft ketch which had bow...

    Single handed 38 pilothouse

I single handed a 46 ft sailboat for many years with no problems. Now have a 38 ft trawler that I single hand. Seriously, this small of a boat you do not need bow or stern thrusters, you just need to take a few days and learn to dock your boat in varying currents and winds. Just be aware of...

US Couple in Caribbean feared dead

Now that I am living ashore and not cruising I can safely say this.. Not telling anyone what to do or not to do, just a few facts: Two circumnavigations, more trips across the Atlantic than I can recall, and at least five Pacific crossings, I never traveled without weapons, and (other than...

Used oil to power our diesel boats

I used to sail tugs and mega yachts that would routinely add waste oil to the fuel. Some boats would directly add to the tanks, others had a system (I believe it was made by Racor) that would add the oil to the fuel as it was used. The only thing I noticed was the Racor filters would be black...

    Washington state ferry video

It really is not that bad of a sea, after all it is protected waters. There are no "Massive Waves", just the bow scooping a bit of water and washing down the deck. Typical Fox news headline, "Bomb Cyclone, Massive Waves, Jaw dropping, Bombshell" etc. If you want to watch the video without...

Generator woes- low compression across all cylinders

If Hatton said the stop solenoid was bad and it wasn't, then declared that the injection pump was faulty and it wasn't, I would NOT believe their compression tests. I would give a shot of starting fluid just to see what happens, would also crack the feed lines to the injectors to make sure there...

    PSS Shaft seal maintenance time.

I actually replaced mine in the water a couple of months ago. It was leaking from a split in the bellows. I believe the original was not a PSS as the bellows was dramatically different. It was not that hard, only problem was separating the shaft from the shaft coupler which was VERY tight.

2023: biggest seas encountered this year?

Was sailing south along the west coast of Washington state. After rounding Cape Flattery, the wind started picking up a bit. (photo). Later that night it picked up around Force 9, here are a couple of shots of the anemometer. The left number is the current wind speed, the right is the maximum...
