Lifepo4 house / lead starting bank interaction?

This is a fine way to do it, and in many cases the easiest. Where it starts to fall apart is if you want a lot of alternator capacity which is one of the things motivated by larger LFP banks and large inverters. In that case you need a lot of DC/DC capacity to fully utilize the alternators...

Lifepo4 house / lead starting bank interaction?

I have NEVER seen a published continuous duty rating for an alternator. Never. It's therefore a question of figuring out yourself how hard you can run it continuously, and what people have found out the hard way is that it's MUCH lower than the nameplate rating. The only exception I'm aware...

Lifepo4 house / lead starting bank interaction?

This is probably an example of how it's guess work. Say you have a 100A alternator, and you "guess" that it can do 70A continuous with out damage. Some of that output will go to charging your start bank and running the engine if it has an electric draw. The rest is available for DC/DC to an...

    Bad Trailer Failure

I agree with the above, however he needs way more than bearings. Backing plate, brakes, drum, and hub all destroyed. Fortunately those assemblies should be available through any decent size trailer dealer.

    Standard Horizon or Icom?

I was always told that both were equal, but I have come to disagree with that based on my own experience. Until this current boat, I always had iCom, but I became very frustrated with their defective N2K support, so built this boat with SH VHFs. Right from the start, I was surprised by the...

Lifepo4 house / lead starting bank interaction?

It protects the alternator because the load it places on the alternator is limited to the rating of the DC/DC charger. So by selecting the capacity of the DC/DC charger, you can adjust and limit the load that the LFP batteries will place on the alternator. It's still a bit of a guessing game...

O ring for Groco ARG-2000 sea strainer cap

Dave, You need the ARG-3 service kit. See attached sheet for the ARG strainers showing all the part numbers plus service kits. You should be able to get the ARG-3 at Fisheries or SeaMar.

Lifepo4 house / lead starting bank interaction?

As others have already stated, there are lots of way to do this with varying levels of work/cost and various levels of performance. What is your current setup? Single or twin engine? Single alternator on each engine, or dual? What charging sources exist for start batteries and for house...

How do you keep your start batteries topped up today?

    Bad Trailer Failure

The quickest, and possibly most economical fix is to replace the whole axle. You will need measurements, weight ratings, etc. But unless you can buy it locally, shipping might be a deal killer. Alternately, I have replaced entire hub and brake assemblies, and they are surprisingly...

    Water maker question

Does the Village Marine watermaker not include a carbon block filter in the fresh water flush line? All the watermakers I've ever dealt with have one for exactly this purpose. The cartridges need to be changed every 6 months.

    shaft alignment after transmission repair

If the engine actually had to be moved 8" x 2" then something is very wrong with the reassembled engine/gear. Perhaps incorrectly installed mount brackets as has been suggested? Or perhaps the gear was swapped for a different model/style gear, and not a rebuild of the original? Or major...

    Hybrid Ship

Interesting boat, with several things touted... - Greater carrying capacity but with same fuel consumption as other ROROs. This appears to be achieved through hull design and main engine efficiencies. Nothing "hybrid" appears to be at play for this area of improvement. - Zero, or near zero...

Borg Warner makes a "klonk" sound when it goes in to reverse.

Is this something new, or has it always made this noise? Is there any possibility of hanging a camera down on a boat hook and filming the prop and shaft when this is happening? And I can't recall if you already did this, but have someone watch the shaft and engine while you shift to see if...
