    House battery bank interconnection

Calder's explanation: "In a series/parallel setup, it is an excellent practice to cross-connect the positives and negatives on the individual 6-volt batteries, or 2-volt cells, as shown in Figure 1-21. This minimizes differences in the way the batteries work and perform." As has been pointed...

    House battery bank interconnection

That’s actually one of my main questions. The left 4 make 12 volts with 450ah, as does the right 4. I figured if I parallel those two sets I get 12v 900ah. Will connecting the two sets in the middle change the voltage or amperage? I keep confusing myself about that?

    House battery bank interconnection

Thanks for the reply. Do you know where I might find a diagram of the very best way to configure this bank? Nigel Calder's diagram only shows 4 batteries, and I have 8. I know that one bad cell anywhere spoils the pot - that's a given no matter what, but I'd like to maximize what's healthy...

    House battery bank interconnection

Hi All, I have 8 Trojan T-105 225ah wired series/parallel for a 12v 900ah house bank. I had heard some time ago about "cross connecting" to better balance everything, and then read about it again in Nigel Calder's book. I welcome any feedback from folks who know about such things. Diagram of...

Old autopilot and loran c vs. gps

Shielded from the converter to the AP right? I can do that.

Old autopilot and loran c vs. gps

Thanks to all the help from this Forum I've learned two main things: The magnitude of how much I didn't know I didn't know, and it looks possible anyway! The OpenCPN is functioning without a GPS device, just a GPS puck antenna plugged directly into a USB port on the Mac. The Mac has a serial...

Old autopilot and loran c vs. gps

I'm also trying to figure out how to actually wire up the connection between the 0183 data as shown on my nav software screen and the AP. If I connect one of these (DTECH RS232 to RS485 / RS422 Serial Communication Data Converter Adapter) to the data port on the Mac Mini that runs my nav...

Old autopilot and loran c vs. gps

Thanks for this info and help! It may all work out yet without having a great deal on a new old stock AP cost more than it's worth to get working with waypoints.

Old autopilot and loran c vs. gps

Thanks very much Ted:thumb: I may have access to a Garmin 220, but I'll start with seeing if the signal even works with what I have. I really appreciate the help.

Old autopilot and loran c vs. gps

Oh man, typo. 120, not 220. They are older models, each with their own antenna. The computer uses a puck antenna.

Old autopilot and loran c vs. gps

I have 2 stand alone Garmin GPS 220 units that show me SOG and position, one at each helm. They are not used for plotting. For Chart plotting I have OpenCPN installed on a Mac Mini running TFT displays. All that works great, but I am (obviously) at the shallow end of the learning curve in...

Old autopilot and loran c vs. gps

So I will need to get an 0183 GPS antenna has more than just a coax cable, yes?

Old autopilot and loran c vs. gps

Thanks for the replies! The manual does state that the APU is set up to receive nmea 0183, so there's that anyway. I have a lot more reading to do...
