    Is Defender is loosing it?

You are correct, thanks for catching that. I now see I neglected to select the 30A version when comparing the prices.

    Is Defender is loosing it?

I strongly recommend you check the price of that IP22 at Hodges Marine. I think you'll be pleasantly surprised. I've purchased the electronics suites and other equipment for my last two boats from them. They have consistently had the best prices and customer service in all my dealings with...

    Cruise speed and fuel consumption

My previous Fales 30 Boomarang (Willard 30 clone) was powered by a fresh 56hp Yanmar with a well-tuned and matched 3-blade prop. Lightly loaded with a clean bottom it was capable of 7.2 knots. This was observed over a timed, 2-way measured nautical mile and was repeatable. The bow rise was...

Simrad MFD - course and heading do not align.

Both of the systems were installed in my former boat Boomarang, a Fales 30 Caribe (like a Willard 30) trawler, which is definitely a 6-7 knot boat. Simrad AP21, AP22, JX300, FU50, RFC35, RF300, RPU080 - Robnet/NMEA0183-based Autopilot. The standard RFC35 Compass was upgraded to the optional...

Simrad MFD - course and heading do not align.

Absolutely. Even upgrading from standard fluxgates to rate compasses on two previous Simrad systems made an enormous difference in accuracy, response and usability. Honestly, no comparison.

    throttle control, non morse

Looks like SeaStar (Morse) Twin SR Control P/N CH5400P. These use a SeaStar CA69060P Stainless Steel Replacement Control Handle which fit both SLT & SR Twin controls. Search Google or Ebay for that part number and you will find they are readily available.

Back in the 70's I attended the Paris Auto Show with a friend who was an area rep for Robert Bosch Corp. Nick was Dutch and had a heavy accent and a booming voice. As we passed through the vendor area, Nick recognized his counterpart rep in the Lucas booth, so we stopped to talk. The Lucas...

Not an electronics connection guy...question for those who might be.

Please take a closer look at this image. It is a Simrad AC20 with some of the green plugs removed. You can clearly see these plug into corresponding sockets on the circuit board. All of the green or black plugs are removable if desired for wiring. The grey power terminal block is fixed. In...

Not an electronics connection guy...question for those who might be.

Also, look carefully at the terminal blocks you are inserting your wires into. In some brands (Robertson/Simrad) these are actually removable plugs that can be pulled out of the circuit board which can make the job of attaching the wires much easier.

First time I heard the term Wog was aboard a US Navy ship during a Line-Crossing ceremony while crossing the equator. It observes a mariner's transformation from slimy Pollywog or Wog, a seaman who hasn't crossed the equator, to trusty Shellback, also called a Son or Daughter of Neptune. It was...
