    removing teak deck 1995 GB

I just did this with my 1973 GB36. Once the bungs are removed and screws backed out the teak comes up quite easily. I think the polysulfide was more of a sealant than an adhesive. The deck is layered RFP/plywood/RFP. I tried ripping up the teak with a 3' pry bar but removing the bungs and screws...

    Sticker shock AGAIN!

I recently read an informal stat that in the 1960's a "middle class" home was roughly one years gross salary. Now it is roughly 5 years gross salary.

Three Blade versus four blade propeller

It is advisable to run the engines UNDER LOAD at full throttle for 5 minutes or so on every days run. This increases engine temp somewhat but more importantly increases cylinder pressures which is important for getting the piston rings to seat properly against the cylinder walls. Not doing so...

    Remove blue sea water crusties

Vinegar is an acid, baking soda is a base. When you mix the two you neutralize their PH and create salt.

Did Water Enter My Engine Via Exhaust?

Get in the engine room, put a wrench on the balancer bolt and roll it 720 degrees minimum. You will notice a resistance during the compression cycle (one compression cycle for each cylinder) but a hydrolock will be noticeably different, with much higher resistance.

    Aging

With reference to the term "swallowed the anchor", I prefer that "he cast off for the final voyage."

    Lithium Ion Tool Battery Fires

A friend is a fire fighting officer and formerly worked for Shannon Yachts building yachts. He handles water borne incidents for the fire dept. He has seen a couple boat fires which had clearly originated at the battery/charging system. There were no forensics that he is aware of but still...

    Aging

I am 67YO and I still work full time (construction management) and I truly enjoy it. It requires mental agility which is becoming less than I once had, but I feel that the stimulation is good for the mind. When I get to the boat (in the midst of a refit) I can still be distracted by all the...

    Sanding teak trim

I have watched several "pros" doing brightwork. They usually mask around the trim w/ Frog tape and apply a little heat with a heat gun (no flames) and scrape off the heaviest part. Then sand in place and refinish.
