    Is Autopilot Necessary In PNW?

I use my auto pilot extensively on my 36 foot single diesel trawler. It makes being underway much more relaxing, and enjoyable. An auto pilot can steer straighter and stay on course better than most human pilots.

Balmer voltage regulator vs battery isolator

I am installing a new Balmer 100 amp alternator with their MC-618 external regulator on my Ford Lehman engine. The alternator is supposed to charge the two battery banks on my single engine trawler. It is all wired up but I haven’t started the engine yet because I need to modify the belt...

    Voltage Leak to Bonding System

That could be dangerous in fresh water. I hope your marina management is taking it very seriously.

    Voltage Leak to Bonding System

Thank you for your kind and lucid responses, Mr. Comodave and Mr. SteveK. Pursuant to Comodave’s suggestion, I disconnected the AC power cable; I turned off the inverter and I disconnected both the positive and negative terminals from all batteries. In other words, I deprived the vessel of all...

    Voltage Leak to Bonding System

Thank you. I will try those things.

    Voltage Leak to Bonding System

Hello. This relates to my 36-foot Island Gypsy trawler, 1984 vintage. She is experiencing a stray voltage leak in the bonding system. Measuring it right at the transom zinc bolt, I consistently get a reading of between 25 and 40 milliamps in the bonding system with my multimeter placed in...

    Vacuuflush & Peggie Hall

Problem Solved Problem solved. Thanks DDW. The instructions for the vacuum switch say not to adjust it, that it is set at the factory. Well phooy on that I made a small adjustment (had to turn the threads hard enough to break the locktite) and now it works perfectly and shuts off...

    Vacuuflush & Peggie Hall

And thanks for the good advice.

    Vacuuflush & Peggie Hall

But I will go ahead and replace that seal. Maybe that will somehow magically do the trick!

    Vacuuflush & Peggie Hall

Actually, water stays in the bowl just fine, but the system won't seem to build up quite enough pressure (vacuum) for the switch to shut the motor off.

    I will check that. Thanks.

    Vacuuflush & Peggie Hall

I will do that, but if it were leaking, it would not hold vacuum, right?

    Vacuuflush & Peggie Hall

Vacuflush problem I have a Vacuflush system, with a vacuum generator about 22 years old. The pump won’t stop running. I have recently replaced the bellows, the four duckbill valves and the vacuum switch. Water will stay in the bowl and the system holds a vacuum. Once I get it to stop, it...

    Heavy Battery Removal

That is by far the best solution. Why go to the trouble and expense of re-wiring to accomodate 6 volt batteries??

    Black iron fuel tanks

Hello. I have a 1983 Island Gypsy trawler with the original black iron tanks port and starboard. Mine each have two access plates that are screwed on using rubber gaskets. While not easy, this at least makes a partial inside inspection possible if the tanks are empty. Once I had the...

    Island Gypsy Keel Plate

Hello All. The keel plate from my 1984 36-foot Island Gypsy fell off in the ocean. I hate it when that happens. In my case this was a piece of bronze hardware that was screwed to the wooden keel and extended aft under the rudder, with the bottom of the rudder shaft sitting on the...

    Brass Step Plates

I know I am replying to a post that is four years old, but I would be interested in the information you have about Island Gypsy cap rail plates. Thanks. Jerry Reid San Diego, CA
