    VacuFlush head conversion

For all you folks with a noisy ME head, I changed to a system which uses ship's water thereby removing the water pump from Raritan, realised most of the noise was the raritan pump, much quieter now.

    Mainship 34 pilot color

My 2003 pilot 34 is dark green, does anyone know the color code for this color? I am assuming the boat came from the factory painted with awlgrip, but I may be wrong.

    Questions about Primer

Just finished a job with awlgrip, it is far and away the best paint I have ever used. The hull was painted 10 years ago and still looks new. The transom didn't get the awl care applied every year, and that is what I just repainted. Compared to other products I have seen awlgrip gives a far...

Hose run for Engine to hot water heater 34' pilot

If the twin is similar to our single, you should be able to run hoses up the port side behind the wall in the head, then under the sink, and across to the tank, Pretty round about but may also be doable on the stbd side. Our single has the hwt aft in the engine room, and up the port side is...

What is this thing on my water heater?

Those vinyl hoses get very soft when heated, I wouldn't use them on hot water.

Holding tank vent smell and aeration

I clean my tank with massive dose of bleach (4 gal bleach in 30 gal tank), but my tank is plastic metal tanks may not like this. I fill tank 3/4, add bleach, fill tank to top, let sit and pump out. The reason I do this is I have a light behind the tank to see where the level is, and it doesn't...

    More charging capacity from generator

Your genset probably has an alternator which is hardly used, so an automatic charging relay between your genset battery and your house will utilize the alternator on the genset once the genset batt is charged (which is very quick because all it is used for is to start the genset). Cheap and easy.

    Yanmar 370 Alternator upgrade

Only thing I don'[t like about that engine is the single belt, better check that first, as as they wear they slip.

Holding tank vent smell and aeration

I use a carbon filter on the vent tube. It is a granulated carbon water filter with the standard water filter housing upside down and tilted so if there is ever a disaster it can drain back. The filter costs about ten bucks and lasts about two months constant use. It has to be a granulated...

Is a built in toaster oven the smart choice?

Pretty funny because we just had this discussion at the breakfast table this morning while eating sourdough toast. We have a mainship 34 pilot with a microwave, but I am sure it will turn out the hole is too small for a toaster oven, so....... maybe I can buy a toaster oven and store it...

    Lesson learned quickly!

I have the old stuffing boxes, but with PTFE packings in them. Probably a couple of drops a min, never heat, never adjust, this stuff is amazing.

Where to store gasoline on a Mariner 37 / Helmsman 38?

I store the extra gas in a cooler mounted on the swim platform, it has a drain so fumes can escape. Even got a cooler in a color that kinda matches the boat, attached the cooler to the swim platform with screws. I found the gas somehow used to get contaminated when we used to just strap tha...

    Hurricand Damage Kha Shing 40

We have a Kha Shing 40 badly damaged on the top, radar arch demolished, sundeck roof pushed to the side, all rails smashed, much fibreglass damage. As the hull is aparently undamaged, I am wondering if there is another Kha Shing 40 with the opposite problem, ie the hull wrecked but the upper...

    Heating

We use the cheap chineese diesel heaters, have been using one now for five years, it gives steady heat, is quiet, trouble free, and uses very little power. Only problem (and I suspect this is true of all diesel heaters) is that when it reaches the max temp setpoint, it doesn't shut off, just...

    Two stroke oil leak

If it is coming out above the lower unit, there is no gasket there, you are probably using too much oil in the gas and it is slobbering inside and working out.

Repairing Hull - Deck Joint - RubRail Leaks

Just back from boat, will lay out what I saw/ did as I am sure most mainships have the same problem. 1) Did the joints with boat in the water from the floating dock, can't imagine doing it on the hard, too much up/ down the ladder. 2) port side was pretty open, the deck creaked when walked on...
