    Dent Island Water Wall Turbine

This is fascinating and anyone familiar with the area will know the challenges. Buddy towed this thing up to Dent Island from Duncan Bay, near Campbell River, on Monday and they have been trying to secure it ever since. It keeps busting loose. It draws 12' and they had to lock the paddle...

How busy are the high seas?

Have a look... Parallel to the USS Fitzgerald thread, the talk about traffic and a posted AIS live link, the following video is a fun watch. I was reminded of it last year when keeping an eye on Dauntless Richard cross the Atlantic and his comments he had seen no other vessels in days...

    How's YOUR weather?

What is going on? Ok, I know June can be iffy here on the coast but this is ridiculous. 45F to 75F in 24 hours ( I used old skool numbers for the vast majority here who have yet to catch up) and flat arse calm to 6 footers. BC interior wracked with flooding and if the movement continues...

    Remind me again, will ya…

The USCG “open mic” and “pointless” posts reminded me that we all need reminders about something, sometime and it is usually the obvious. Just this weekend I was reminded that more and more people are born with the wire to the logic terminal just hanging there. Buddy told me Sunday morning...

    Twistedtree...

Peter; One of my pals is skipper of Island Fury, which tows logs from Knight Inlet to Howe Sound. One day last week, I opened Marine Traffic AIS to see where he was and found him southbound Cordero Channel. Abeam, to my surprise, was Tanglewood, northbound. How cool is that? When I told...

    Broughtons Oil Spill

A little oil looks like a lot but the locals with oars in the water say it is more than what's being reported.

    A Blackfish Buffet

Monday Jan 2, 2017 Transient Bigg's (meat eating) Killer Whales certainly made a huge splash by sneaking up on around 600 Pacific White Sided Dolphins who were merrily feeding just off Texada Island. Once the Dolphins realized they were about to become lunch, they all exploded out of the water...

    Pender Harbour grounding

If Xsbank is around he might fill us in on this one. It's Bellisima out of Frisco. Looking at the first video which is an earlier one, showing her more mid channel, I'm speculating they put a green buoy to the wrong side. Maybe at Skardon Islands. Second video shows her drifting by Farrington...

Keith; Come see Tsehum Yum Yum

Did you know she was a local??? A week or two ago when I mentioned the Chinese Junk in Powell River, that was the first time I had thought of her in oh, probably 4 dozen years. I had completely forgotten the name Yum Yum, until you said it. Short story long, I was down at Tsehum looking at...

PM, email and Thank You issues.

I've been having 3 issues lately; Yesterday I tried to send Spy a PM and it took 3 attempts and I still don't know if it went. Today I tried a Thank You and I had to back out and come at it again before it would work. Email notifications of posts are really hit and miss. Probably getting...

    Military connections

Since Canada's military might is only a skiff and a balloon better than Iceland, I have zero military exposure and don't know the difference between a frigate and an f bomb. That doesn't however, stop me from being fascinated with the hardware and entertained by the personnel. Periodic...

We've lived in a great boating era.

Reading of Tad Roberts well earned recognition, I got to thinking; Many people on TF have grown up among some of the most notable boat people, whose names we know and whose vessels we instantly recognize. Many on here have been on the boats or visited the yards famous for the named boats...

Go easy on BC fresh water.

Since many of our coastal communities rely on you folks with big thirsts and ice makers, this is just a heads up on the water situation. Not saying the sky is falling, just bring money and go easy. Snow packs are lower than normal, peak melt earlier and runoffs down. Vancouver Island and...

    Wet exhaust lift

What am I missing? These pictures are a Perkins' in a 49 De Fever, stand up ER. The mufflers must be at least 4 feet below the waterline. I can't grasp how the water in the exhaust can travel up that distance and out. Or, how the water does not back into the exhaust. Tom?
