For Sale: Bimini Frame For 3870 (3818, 3888)

For so many reasons, I broke down and bought a hardtop for the flybridge. So the bimini frame is up for grabs! I took it down over the winter, polished it, new set screws, replaced some bimini hardware, made new pins. Heavy walled, 1" diameter. Sized to drop right on a 38 bayliner. 4 bow, framed...

How long should a Marine AC last?

There seems to be a discrepancy in West Coast/East Coast and North/South as far as longevity. Same thing I'm running into when searching about exterior Teak finishes  This is on the southern Chesapeake Bay. Tropics in the summer, Puget Sound in Winter. I have read about Flagship. They...

How long should a Marine AC last?

I replaced the forward HVAC with a Webasto FCF 12k like 6 years ago. Unit runs 24/7. Getting an E3 error code which is low pressure ie, condenser coil is shot. Loved the unit, ran flawlessly until I put her back in the water after new bottom paint back in May. I'm trying to get ahold of...

    Star-Lord, Electric Trawler Conversion

Bravo! When I got to the point where you converted to single screw, you pretty much nailed how Gulfstar did it on the motorsailer version of that boat. If you need any references for rudder size, look to the old GS motorsailers. Nice job none the less and it makes me wish I had more...

    Plastic drilling tips?

I've had success with finer divisioned step-drill bits. Also flipping the part over and finishing the other half of the hole from the back side.

How to Dock a Boat Correctly

Yes! Never be afraid to abort attempt and start over. More than a few occasions I've pulled back out into the fairway and turned around. Easier to do that than try and correct a botched landing. Also, I'd say learn to you use pilings to pivot off of. I've used mine plenty of time to catch...

Name the one thing you dislike about your boat

I have the opposite problem. If I could change one thing about my boat, would be to quiet it down. It's obnoxiously loud and has given guests headaches on longer trips. I think I need a tune up, the engines refuse to synch up and I get that ear peircing drone that cycles in and out

    Prop repair/rebuild on east coast

If you make it to Norfolk, I've been dealing with Murphy's Propeller forever. Outboards, sailboat propeller, shafting, and last year I had my Bayliners Nibral props tweaked down in pitch there.

    How do you organize your"junk"?

I live on my boat. Big items, things, collections, etc. are easy to organize and store. But all the misc. crap is tough to figure out where it goes. And the longer I live on my boat, the more of this misc. crap tend to accumulate. I don't know what to do with it. How do you all organize...

    Painting over crazed gelcoat

I've done plenty of body work on cars, and having a solid foundation makes for a great and long lasting paint job :thumb: My guess is that over the years, moisture has wicked it's way into one crack...which freezes and expands in the winter...allows more moisture to collect, etc. Same reason...

    Varnish Day

Looks amazing! As does all freshly varnish teak :thumb: If I was under cover (I soooooo wish I was), I'd think about prepping and varnishing all of mine to bristol. Right now, living under the sun in Norfolk...I'm thinking of replacing some with S.S., some with starboard, painting the...

    Single Handed suggestions......

Agree with some of the other posters. Whatever boat you buy, practice on it and figure out how it handles in different conditions. I solo a 3870 a lot, and have a Plan "A" (which is when everything goes right), Plan "B" (try something different when I have to abort and try again), and Plan "C"...

Need advice quick! Trouble bedding struts!

Is this something I can tap-test and tear a hollow thud? When I tore out the first strut, some 5200 took the cast pad and a layer of the original hull (even after heat  ) so I know there was no gap in round one of the the starboard strut. I will dry torque the struts tomorrow and...

Need advice quick! Trouble bedding struts!

Such a frustrating experience. I needed to replace to my struts (long story) and I have the dry fit basically perfect. The alignment is spot on, the shafts sit on the bottom of the cutlass bearing and the shafts spin with one finger on the propeller. I used two bolts to hold a strut in place...

Any suggestions on new electronics for someone who has no idea what he wants?

I had a couple mixed drinks and bought the Garmin 942xs and 18" HD+ radar combo and thruhull transducer. Should be here early next week :thumb:

Any suggestions on new electronics for someone who has no idea what he wants?

I did a little Googlin' after reading that 2-3 year remark and the most complaints I read were when in 2017ish Garmin dumped "HELM" for Active Captain and discontinued support some legacy models that didn't have WiFi capabilities... What do you mean that the 942sx is being dumped right now...

Any suggestions on new electronics for someone who has no idea what he wants?

Side Scan Sonar more likely won't work on my boat, it looks like my transducer will end up being a GT23M-TH. Now I'm just trying to decide between a Garmin GPSMAP 942xs or the simpler ECHOMAP Plus 94sv. Both will do what I want them to do, and watching videos, they seem stupid simple to use...

Hot bejebus! Can anyone offer any insight to the varied thru hull transducers available? I think I'm more confused on that aspect than I am on the different MFD offered. Thanks!
