    Bye to all

Reiziger, I'm following right behind you. The idea that a friend of a vender can open a path for that vender to hawk their product for days is clearly not in the spirit of the forum guidelines. Beyond that, Jeffrey S's later posts regarding how he plans to manipulate marinas and...

How much money does Active Captain save you each year?

Yes, most of our seasonal slips have been at marinas with lots of amenities that I never use. I elected to pay the price. Different from being "taxed" for a commercial service that I know nothing about and/or won't use even if I do. Another poster remarked that he thought only the government...

How much money does Active Captain save you each year?

With all due respect, the issue is what I and other non-users currently pay for you to use the resource. You versus someone else paying for what you use is the point. Put a price on the service and compete with the hard copy folks, for example. Pay for play. Be up front about it.

How much money does Active Captain save you each year?

Jeffrey goes out of his way to assure his freebee advocates that he will never impose a user fee. There's a reason for that. He wants outside funding so he can make that claim and at the same time spread the cost around over the entire boating community. Everybody thereby pays a little...

    Marina Reservations

To clarify I was referencing the grand, spanking new sites that fryedaze was referring to. Every one of them replaced an existing, perfectly adequate municipal facility. A lot of boaters liked the old better than the congested and in some cases, dangerous monstrosities that replaced them...

How much money does Active Captain save you each year?

The initial question/survey was posed to a group of usual posters who are biased toward cruising and who use Active Captain. There are probably thousands of multiples of this small slice of boating who do not leave their local area and who wouldn't use Active Captain, or any other on-line...

    Marina Reservations

A disgusting waste of tax payer dollars and I said so at several government planning meetings before it happened. The down turn in boating was looming. Thank consultants for the miscalculation and waste. A number of the new facilities are hugely underutilized (and accidents waiting to...

How much money does Active Captain save you each year?

Not a penny. Active Captain actually places a cost burden on non-users who in effect, are forced to subsidize the business without their consent. Advertising spent with Active Captain is paid for by end users...the boating public. Likewise if marinas are engaged with Active Captain, their...

    Marina Reservations

Keep it up. Adds to my motivation. Plenty of listeners outside the TF cruising segment who will get the flick. Fat cat boaters who have the funds to cruise off into the sunset sucking off of local families who are having trouble paying for the ever increasing price of their slip. No contest...

    Marina Reservations

I think the cruisers who are so much in support of these "free" information aides should belly up and pay for it themselves. I'm sure Jeffrey could look at his books and set a pay-for-play fee that would offset all of his advertising receipts....and he says it's not about the money anyway...

    So clever.

    Marina Reservations

Down to ridicule and insult, are we? Not nice. By the way, it's interesting that the big proponents of this "freebee" are mostly cruisers. The mom and pops who hang out at the marina and do local day cruises aren't really represented....and they get to subsidize those who use the product.

    Marina Reservations

Two weeks ago I booked a room in Ottawa through one of the on-line services. A few days into our stay we were having a beer with some folks at the bar. Got to discussing room rates. They called the hotel directly and booked a package deal. Rate for equivalent room was far less than what we...

dhays, Be careful about making assumptions regarding political or business leanings as you would more than likely get it wrong. Why is it OK to force non-users to subsidize your use of sites like AC? Why not pay your own way? I saw a news piece that Portland is planning to enact...

    Marina Reservations

Naw, you're not offended, you're just looking for a way to discredit.....which, by the way, greatly offends me. I never said AC charges directly. But you tried to imply that I did... Jeffrey made a remark in an earlier post as to how it's about the challenge more than the money and he...

    Miami insanity

Tests showed very high levels of ammonia and feces in that pristine water. Wouldn't be surprised if that gathering is banned in the future. Gross.

Ah, the government cost of living numbers....right. Don't seem to see it in my personal expenditures....absolutely not in the discretionary recreational realm, where I think Reiziger was focused. That's what I was getting at when I asked about what measure....general, discretionary...that sort...

    Marina Reservations

Based on what data? I sure don't see it in the specialized segment of recreational boating. Yes, a slump in boat purchase prices, but that's only because boating taken on the whole has become prohibitively expensive.

    Marina Reservations

No Jeffrey, my comments are not "inappropriate". And they are quite accurate. You obviously profit from what you do and you try to convince the folks paying the bills that it's free. Efficiency. Might be well hidden, but nothing is free...and it always ends up coming out of the pockets of...

    Marina Reservations

ALL of the businesses had more than they could handle before the new marina was built. The town is now a certified mob scene...on the water and off. Of course the local businesses endorsed it before it happened, but there's no question they're second guessing it now. Congestion, noise crime...

    Marina Reservations

Most of your remarks are associated with operating the boat and safety. I'm speaking of the accelerating demise of the boating environment. There's a difference. "I can live with that" is capitulating to the down hill plunge toward bad restuarants, T-shirt shops and skateboards. It's a cop...

Actually I often wonder why you or any business are permitted to discuss your products in these general member strings. Ask to have the discussion taken to the Commercial section if you want to participate. Or post your thoughts over there. Same for parts suppliers hawking parts, delivery...

    Great Loop Budget

    High temperature alarm

The alarms on our engines are set at 200-205 degrees. Thermostats are 175. I've noticed that the aftermarket kits that place a thermocouple around the exhaust pipe have come down in price. As a side note, there's a Grand Banks East Bay 49 parked next to us with a burned out exhaust system on...

    Great Loop Budget

You are clearly most wonderful human beings. Much better than us. The word is "overtly", not overly. Look it up. The gay culture of Saugatuck is the most noteworthy and highly publicized (by the gay community themselves) thing about the town. I'm terribly sorry that you're...
