    Willard 50

I have a sister ship. Mine has served me well in 3.5 years of ownership. Congratulations and good luck with the survey. That looks like a really nice conversion job. I can't think of anything in particular to watch for.

Borg Warner makes a "klonk" sound when it goes in to reverse.

I just had a look at the Autoprop web site and they say the blades turn through 180 degrees. Autoprop - Bruntons Propellers Again, not specific to Brunton, but in my experience well used feathering props can wear and get sloppy. Hard to tell from your description whether yours is operating...

Borg Warner makes a "klonk" sound when it goes in to reverse.

Agreed. I'd bet that if you get the boat moving in reverse and then shift into forward you'd experience a similar clunk. I don't think I've driven a boat with a Brunton prop, but with other feathering props like the Max Prop this is quite noticable. ETA: if you shift to neutral long enough...

    Looking at a 1980 34 mainship

I had a '78 with a Cummins BTA, and generally ran slow - 7 knots or so - to get good FE. Just dug out my log from doing the Loop on that boat a few years ago, Distance: 5,815 NM Motor hours: 893 Generator hours: 299 Fuel used: 1,523 gallons; 5,757 l GPH: 1.7 MPG: 4.4 I'd suggest that as a...

    Hello from Lake Ontario

Welcome aboard. I'm usually close to Ontario in the summer. Lots to see and do, as you know.

    Bahamas- Trip Advise

I bought a one year subscription for the electronic version on the Aqua Map app. Money well spent. I recently did a circle tour of the major groups. My favourites were the Exumas, for the sheer natural beauty, and Eleuthera and Cat Island for the relatively unraveled communities. Lots of pics...

Custom David Gerr 48' shallow-draft trawler

An old thread, but this boat passed me today on the AICW. I rarely have boat envy, but this boat really caught my eye. Still for sale.

    Need engine advise

I really doubt that the engine has been flogged on a Mainship 390. Most owners drive them slow. Incidentally the 390 is the most popular boat for loopers. There are a few of them around now that have done 3 or more loops. That's 1000+ hours per trip.

Any experience installing a rotary drive AP on a GB 32?

I'm not familiar with the GB, but have installed a few on sailboats with cable steering. Raymarine offers both rotary and linear drives. Either can be used - either the linear drive attached to the quadrant, or the rotary drive anywhere in the cable system. A linear drive may be easier and...

Open for suggestions from experienced sailors

The Tenn Tom is closed due to the failure of the Demopolis Lock. Your only route to the Gulf is via the Mississipi for the next few months.

    GB Stem Thickness

I have a similar arrangement, and added a short length of line as you propose. No further concerns for me. There are lots of snubber arrangements to relieve the windlass or chain end attachment of undue stress.

Lehman 120 rebuild or replace in 2024?

https://marinepowerengine.com/home/91-beta-marine-85t-marine-diesel-engine.html shows new ones in stock at $6,300. That seems very reasonable vs a rebuild. I know what I'd do ?

Lehman 120 rebuild or replace in 2024?

I think that would be a great choice. Did you price them out?

    Refrigerator power consumption question

My Norcold uses about 100ah per day on average. More in hot weather.

    Heat pump combo washer/dryer

I bought a used Splendide ventless dryer assuming it was a heat pump model and it's not. It uses resistance heat and condenses the steam using cold water. They may still make both types. It's useless as a dryer, and consumes water on the dry cycle. I didn't install it on the boat.

No mobile app frustrations (I know it was turned off)

I do everything on my Android phone, and found the transition from the app unpleasant. I almost stopped visiting. But after some experimentation and patience the experience is OK now. Don't give up.

Charging batteries and 12 V system underway

It's very common. The expectation was that the alternators charge the start batteries and carry DC operating loads, which will generally be under 40 amps. Easy work. The generator handles the house loads. As long as you're willing to run the generator as needed it's a tried and true system.

Charging batteries and 12 V system underway

This has been discussed here, and I think the concensus is that there's no appreciable difference in fuel consumption between the two. Unless you're using an inverter under high loads or trying to recharge your house bank quickly the OEM alternators should keep up just fine. I'm not sure I...

    Heat pump combo washer/dryer

I've had a heat pump dryer made by LG in a rental unit for a few years. Ventless and 110v. It works pretty well and is very energy efficient. I'd love a heat pump combo unit for the boat. When I shopped for one a couple of years ago the only ones I found were made by Splendide. I think...

    Heavy Weather - GB42

Fully agree a modern AP steers better than people. It's the computer using a bunch of inputs to learn the best path through waves. A good AP will move the rudder less. It's not usually about pump size.
