    Interesting boats

This one makes me want to own a wood boat. Stabilized, bow thruster, beautiful. https://www.facebook.com/marketplace/item/1491590488459515/?ref=search&referral_code=null&referral_story_type=post&tracking=browse_serp%3Af279fd81-2fd7-4a06-97e2-11ba8064498e

Fixing boats in Exotic Places - are new boats really that bad?

It seems like an especially big problem when you buy a boat overseas, then want to immediately sail it to another country, and live aboard it full time. Much harder to coordinate the workers and parts to fix issues. Much better if you could shake it out near the builder, or somewhere with a...

    Interesting boats

Wow! That is incredible. Can you imagine how many man hours of maintenance has gone into that yacht since it was launched? It looks unbelievable. From the listing. "Hull thickness est. 6" includes a very specific size foam core wrapped in the fiberglass"

    Suggestions needed for removal

I like the cap and slide hammer idea. If you can't get the threads to work, you might be able to get one of these Victalic couplings to stick on there. It will come down to if the OD is similar enough to an Iron pipe size, and if the existing tube is stiff enough. You can put a Victaulic...

    "Batwing" stabilisator

It might be an issue with overhead height in Europe, but I think outriggers with stabilizer fish you drag is a much more elegant solution. -Likely cheaper to fabricate - The lever arm of getting them out away from the boat allows for much less surface area of the fish to still be effective...

    Propeller Shaft Zinc Reality Check

Might also try one of the zincs you clamp onto ground and just hang over the side on a cable while at the dock. Would be much easier than installing grounded transom zincs, and could give you a better idea if the larger project was worth it.

    West Coast Vancouver Island

We have only done it once, but the above advice all sounds good to me. I would highly recommend this trip. It takes way less time than going to Alaska, (Which is also great) and feels like a bigger adventure. A few things I would add. We enjoyed Sea Otter cove but it was SCARY coming in...

    Would You?

If the boat is new to you, and you are not 100% confident about its systems I would have it brought up on a truck. Should be no problem in that size range. Of coarse you can bring it up on it's own bottom if the adventure sounds like fun.

Hello from a longtime lurker who now has a new trawler project

Cool boat, and great work so far. Keep posting your progress, and projects.

    Interesting boats

This is too much boat for me, on the wrong continent, and even if I was rich enough to maintain it, I would only consider it if I had 70' covered moorage to keep it in. That being said. This is a lot of boat for $650K! From the pictures it looks absolutely spotless. What would it cost to...

    Hyundai Yachts

I met a guy last year that had bought a one and was over the moon about it. He really liked the interior layout. To say that it was not my style of boat is an understatement. Everybody has their own priorities and tastes.

    Interesting boats

Woodwork around most of the windows and opening ports/ fixing the windows and ports, Paint (This is a huge expense to have professionally done on a boat like this), headliners (Again, huge expense), carpets look stained in a couple places. Electronics are old and a buyer would likely upgrade...

    Interesting boats

That does look like a great boat, that is well priced. I will guess at why it looks so cheap. 1. I bet it would cost a lot more than 100-200K to have it brought back to super nice yacht spec if hired it out. I bet if you brought it into a high quality yard and had them fix all the issues...

Way too much boat for me, but it does look like a good deal.

That looks like a super cool boat. Congratulations!

Removal of Sand/Epoxy finish on foredeck.

First thing I would try is to clean the existing deck as best you can, then roll another layer of Alwlgrip over it. Another layer of normal paint might make the grit less aggressive, and should definitely make it look better. If you don't like it, it's not that much harder to sand off than...

    Do I need Windshield wipers?

Rain X is all you need. It lasts way longer on forward raked windows between application as they are not exposed to the UV as much.

    Dumb Newb Questions

If you think $1000/month for a marina is too much money, don't even think about a 65' boat. Buy something 30-40' long. Plenty big for a single person.

    ComNav Autopilot

If your issues come back don't hesitate to contact Comnav. They have the most impressive customer service I have ever experienced in the marine industry. I bought my boat a few years ago in Fiji. The autopilot wasn't working properly coming, and I was at home trying to help the delivery...

    New boarding steps

Got the final steps installed, and used them in the real world in Sidney. I couldn't be happier about how they worked out. Makes it so much easier to get on and off the boat, and they stow really nicely when not in use. Fixed a problem with this boat that had seemed to me like an unfixable...

    Caulk

I use Loctite polyurethane from Home Depot for stuff like that. I am convinced it is just as good as the marine stuff that is 2-3x the price. I use Butyl tape for bedding hardware.

    Looking for a marine mechanic

I am sure there is someone in Vancouver, but if you can't find them, it is pretty easy to take them out, and reinstall them yourself. Seattle injector has reasonable prices to test and rebuild old injectors. I imagine you could just mail them down. Doing the install yourself is great...

    Life Raft

For a boat that is not doing world cruising, I would say the most important thing in choosing a life raft is to get one that can be serviced locally when it expires. Shipping them is a pain due to the flares and compressed gas in it. It is way better if you can just throw it in your car, and...
