    Salon Window Replacement

Use Permetex Urethane caulk. Comes in a blue and orange tube from Home Depot. Sounds crazy, but it cleans with mineral spirits, is white, sticks like stink. Not sure about plexiglass. Go to my blog, grandbankschoices, and see the process. I did 22? windows. It will never need to be done again...

    Sanding teak trim

I used a heat gun and a peanut scraper. Go to my blog, grandbankschoices, and dig around and find the write up. A heat gun is fastest but you must be careful or you can toast the wood. Scraper must be kept sharp. I bought about six cause they would get so hot they would melt in my hands. Use...

Slow Hand – End of the line

We too have decided to sell and try other things. I will restore several cars that I have bought for just this occasion. Good luck Ted. As many mistakes as your making there are not near as many as the other guys. Mike

Owning a 40 foot trawler with no generator?

The only thing not on an inverter is the AC. We converted everything to DC. House runs off an 8D. We have a generator, but could live without it.

    Bahamas- Trip Advise

Well, your going during hurricane season. That means you need to have enough boat to get to the US no matter what the sea state. I liked Chubb and Fresh Creek. The kids will go nuts. You could have issues with dogs. Be prepared to fish everytime you move the boat. Don't hesitate to hire a local...

    refrigeration replacement Grand Banks Classic

I do not. I did size my refer with capacity to freeze it. My top loading can get so cold it freezes shut. Have silicone the gasket.

    Ford Lehman Damper Plate Replacement

It is hard to diagnose because they fail gradually. It had not been replaced when I bought boat. Engine was noisy at idle, a lot of rocker clatter. Once changed, very easy, engine room noise cut in half.

    GB 36 Generator upgrade

We have a 5.5 kw Northern Lights. Perfect for the boat. I converted everything to DC and run a small inverter for appliances. Only thing on genset now is battery charger and AC. Could easily get by with 4 kw.

    Need shaft alignment

Take Drive Saver off, sldie shaft up till it makes with the tranny flange, and then align. If flange is not smooth you will need to rotate it around till all looks good on feeler gauge. Motor mounts are a cheap fix, and well worth it. Go to grandbankschoices, and dig around and find where I...

I like to entertain, fish, and overnight. Is the GB 32 sedan good for this?

No way I would get on a 32 or 36 with 12 people unless they were Dallas Cowboys cheerleaders. The boat is great for fishing but slow, so distance covered will be small. The inside will be nice compared to similar sportfisher. A 36 sedan is rare.

    Collapsed motor mount?

Go to my blog, grandbankschoices, and you can see motor mounts being replaced on my 36GB and also running gear on a 42 GB. Unless you just want to do it, take it to a yard. Mounts are easy, everything else is a bitch. You can't just say the motor is high. Might be, or front might be low...

    GB - Ventilation

I use a carpet drying fan, mounted in the bow that blows the length of the boat. If no power crack engine room hatches and let air circulate.

    Installing true frameless windows anyone?

I replaced and rebuilt all the windows on our GB. At the time I considered glue in. Would have been very easy. I also thought about making new frames out of extruded fiberglass. Easily shaped by common woodworking tools and glued. Awlgrip it and never touch them again. Only reason I didn't...

They are terminal boxes. You may find a terminal strip or just wires. Factory prewired for options like lighting, sensors, etc. Wire colors will give you an idea.

    Questionable survey?

We have decided to sell our boat, and I feel your pain. You do need to look at the boat with buyer's and inspector's eyes. Something I am glad your post reminded me of. I will go wipe my oil pan since it is also overfilled. I intend to disclose a few items I am aware of but consider not...

    Heavy Weather - GB42

I have helped move several 42 GB Classics. Never in what I would call heavy seas. Those are big heavy boats with a nice keel. They tend rock easy but the roll is comfortable until it stops, around 45 degrees and whips back. In a following sea you are nice and the stern high up, and just a...
