If you are going to disconnect the buzzer...that is generally a hot wire off the key. Key on > hot to buzzer> grounded at oil pressure switch. You will be disconnecting that wire at the buzzer, you can use it. Just make sure its the hot wire into the buzzer and not out.

On my Perkins the stop solenoid is energized to stop. However its energized via a relay on the Stbd side of the engine. You may have 2 round relays over on that side. Opposite side of the stop solenoid.

LOL....first time? Anytime you put a rotating bit in a round hole you risk this action. And its always a risk. Cant tell you how many times I have tempted fate, being lazy and "extra careful" only for it grab and wind up with that scenario.

What size is your alternator?

If I remember correctly those are resistors to take the place of the typical "charge" light bulb used to indicate loss of alternator output. If the bulb burns out on some configurations you may not have alternator output. Many boats dont actually have that bulb and may use the resistor in place...
