Repower twin prop with single engine

If you have the skill set to do it yourself (mostly) and you like that stuff. Great. I DIYed the re-power of my first boat and the peripherals were the same cost as the brand new motor. And that was a drop in. I can only imagine the peripherals for this to be 2 - 4 X. But as I said...

    Water maker question

I made the mistake of assuming our Village Marine water maker actually worked at one point as installed. Nope. 110 motor wired to 220. Non-self priming LP pump installed above the waterline. Absolute bear to work on stuffed in its small frame. Still cannot get it to work after re-building HP...

New member with recent interest for Trawlers after 50 years of sailing

Many sailors, including me, tend to kneejerk to a GB. Baby steps to a stink-pot as it were. We found a very different boat which satisfied all of needs...mainly lots more room everywhere. Look around as mentioned and be open-minded and you might be surprised at what tickles your fancy.

    Cockpit Winches

Whatever you buy try to buy used. Winches are really robust and do not wear down easily and you can get them at a fraction of the cost. Sailors Exchange in St. Augustine might be a place to start. Electric would require room for the motor beneath.

    1/4" G4 Chain in JAX

120' (approx.) of 1/4" G4 chain in OK shape. Surface rust on some parts. Have an Ideal vertical windlass gypsy to match that could use a re-chroming. $50 (OBO) for either. Thanks. Located at Port 32 in Jacksonville.

    Ocean Alexander 423

We have 3208s and displace 44,000 pounds. We cruise at 1400 RPMs (8.5 knots) and have seen 5 - 6 gals an hour while also running the generator for a time every day.

You still looking for the pressure vessel?

    Would You?

We did a East coast version of that trip. South from CT to FL. First time running boat. But went through it thoroughly before we left, but mostly on the hard. Left late November, so potentially very challenging. It did work because even though I have 50 years experience sailing, my concerns...

Modified vs. Pure Sine vs. Microwave...

We powered our 1500 watt microwave (refrig etc) with a Xantrax 1800 modified sine wave inverter. Installed a Magnum 2000 watt pure sine wave and microwave now just immediately shuts down. No error codes. The refrigerator still works fine with new inverter. When directly connected to inverter...

Loss of SV Rum Truffle, Bahia del Sol bar, El Salvador

Perhaps this is the New York cynicism coming out in me...but I cant help thinking the "pilot" was in on the resulting booty. Variation of the old lighthouse "light", that was not, to encourage shipwrecks. Sad and vile if it were so. Hope not, but...

    Safe Harbor...what's the deal.

The no Florida slips was two 1/2 years back and have not looked again at Florida availability since then. Apparently the program has changed. We were "Black Card" holders (big yard bill) and the rules were clear "back then" No winter Florida slips. But Black Card is no more and it seems that...

    Safe Harbor...what's the deal.

Apparently after we paid some big yard bills we are "Black Card" holders for life. And yes we have gotten free nights at marinas...not in Florida. No free nights in Florida. Also fuel at cost.

Picture Hanging Challenges (aka first word problem...)

Thanks all. When I said Velcro-like I was referring to 3M products version of hook and loop. It comes off of wall and pictures. Love the idea of the 3M double sided foam tape as one of the mountings is on a very slight curvature. Again. Thank you!

Picture Hanging Challenges (aka first word problem...)

Picture Hanging Challenges (aka first world problem...) So we have some art (not heavy...frameless) we are trying to hang in the master. The walls are a beautiful wood and I am loathe to put holes in them. So I have been using Velcro-like products that I thought were the right application...

    Nordhavn 40...lack of side decks

We are sailors as well and purchased our boat with no side decks. We have never had a problem, but I am also rather tall and can get off the boat to the dock if need be to receive lines. As a practical matter, 95% of the time dock hands are nearby. Of course you cannot rely on that, but we...

    fuel tank fabricator wanted

Allow me a qualification. I had my tank made years ago. Since posting this I saw a reference to newish aluminum tanks recently made (since 2019ish) which were developing pin hole leaks. Luther's was one example. I think it was more about inferior material that snuck in there. I would say...

Sleipner/Side Power Thruster Failures in new units

Every properly functioning install that I have used, seen or read about has been been with a dedicated battery in situ. Proper cabling etc. Not that remote batteries will not work, but why take a chance.
