    Head replacement?

We had an 01 34 Pilot with the same head, I lived with it but hated it. Flushed OK but the boat always stunk from the sea water flush unless I drained the hoses. Seems to me the ME have several sizes but I’m not sure about their compatibility with seawater. I also don’t think the freshwater...

    Vacuflush losing pressure

Had the same problem, after going through all the usual duck bill and bellows replacements, I found a crack in the pressure tank. Some Shoe Goo fixed it, never replaced the tank!

    Big HP vs Small HP

My 47’ trawler with twin 57 hp Yanmars gets 5.0 mpgs at 8 knots. Less with head wind or up current, more with a tail wind etc. but not much difference.

Boats that give normal liveaboards a bad rep

Tempting to take an axe and cut it loose some night, probably has no propulsion as well.

Hello there! I have a question about a trawler

I own a steel trawler, built in Guatemala in 1998. These vessels are very easy to do repairs to the hull, but should be thoroughly surveyed and the hull THICKNESS tested in a grid pattern of 4-5 inches to first determine viability of the vessel. You get what you get with the rest and any...

    Lower helm station

We have a flybridge boat and an enclosed helm trawler, prior have owned another enclosed helm trawler and an express. Personally our flybridge boat has excellent visibility from the lower helm, and I have only once in several thousand hours used the flybridge. The enclosed helm trawlers are...

    Boat Insurance 1994 Vessel

Older boat insurance A lot depends on the boat location, whether you lay up off season, and whether you live aboard 365. One of my boats is a 42 steel trawler made in Guatemala as a one of, in 1998. Travelers has insured this vessel on an agreed value policy since 2014, with a disappearing...

Interior Teak Finish - 1988 Ocean Alexander

I used Cetol on a painted door that gets UV all day. Instructions said don’t use over paint, don’t thin, and it was a satin finish. I thought it was too thick to use without thinning, so I cut it with thinner about 20 %, and applied it over paint. It filled any cracks, as well flowed to a...

    Engine room ventilation

I owned a trawler for ten years, that I had built that had twin Yanmar 4 cylinder engines and no engine room ventilation. Over 2500 hours I had no problems other than repositioning the Victron inverter to the utility room to lower the heat. Never any corrosion in the engine room, always in salt...

New dock options wall or Mooring Poles

We are in SW Florida on a floating dock that took the 12 foot flood surge of Ian without damage. My boat topped two fixed dock pilings on the side opposite the floating dock and had some scratches in the paint. Only other damage was the “top down bottom up” shades in the salon stopped going up...

    Rheem Marathon Water Heater

Sounds too big and heavy, not knowing your boat or cruising style, unless you need/want to sit in cold, remote anchorages for days on end the size of this heater would seem to be a big space/weight compromise. I get by with a 6 of 8 gallon and a brief gen run daily.

    Kadey Krogen 39

We cruise mostly at trawler speeds; from the Great Lakes to the Panhandle and through the Bahamas I have run the boat from a flybridge once in 20 years. Prefer climate control. I can go out and bake anytime I choose with the option to have additional melanomas removed. I don’t spend as much on...

Considering Moving "Slow Hand" to the Great Lakes

We have cruised the Great Lakes for 50 years, still keep a boat on northern Lake Huron. Stored in heated space during winter, but still drain all lines that may freeze, still, have had no trouble since I stopped doing the work myself and got a busted toilet for a prize. The season is short, but...

    Forum opinion on "converted" yachts

These boats are extremely light displacement, not very deep draft, high wind age, small rudders, and now underpowered! Terrible low speed steerage, terrible ride, impossible handling in wind or current, possibly very very economical as owner will be terrified to leave the dock.

    Need Snowbird Advice

We keep a boat on Lake Huron and one in Florida, but we own a dock in each location, fortunately purchased when things were not so tight; seems your ready to spend a “fortune” each year going back and forth on the east coast and always transient docking in addition to the not insignificant fuel...

    Heating Systems

HelloWe have a Krogen Express 2019 we keep in Florida, as well a 42 steel trawler we keep in Cheboygan MI. New Krogen Express are sold out to 2024, and the distributer has no used vessels in inventory as of this date. I have never needed much heat in my Krogen so I can’t tell how much you...

Need advice for appliances, gas or electric, if you had a choice

I go with Webbles as well save maybe the stove. We have an all electric steel hull trawler with washer dryer, an almost all electric semi displacement vessel with a gas stove and oven, and a house with gas stove, electric oven, and gas on demand water heater. I love the gas for cooking, but it...

    Kitchen Sink Drain Funk

I can recommend “Happy Camper” available on Amazon for all waste liquifying and odor needs. About $55 for 64 treatments of 40 gallons per.

    Head chemicals

So y’all hijacked the thread to sweet tanks and such without answering the question about the chemical makeup of “Happy Camper”, which has no MSDS or description on the website, but works where NoFlex does not.

    Head chemicals

Again, no vent odor when flushing, but odor when pumping off. Had sweet tanks etc., these are not the question, the question is what is the active chemical in Hapoy Camper that seems to out perform NoFlex Digester

    Head chemicals

I do not notice a tank vent odor, just notice it at pump out.
