    44 Tolly repower

If you run your boat like a trawler, say 7-8 knots, then you're likely not using more than 40-60 hp even in wind/waves. You're planning to run a 370 down at idle speed of 20-30 hp for 8 hours a day. That's realistic for a modern electronically controlled common rail, but for an old fashioned...

    CASH???

I can see the strategy being very attractive and thus being able to buy at ridiculously discounted prices. Did you even have time to survey the boat or just relied on your own inspections?

    Value of a Captain's Door?

I've never heard it called a "captain's door". There's a new one. Certainly helps when docking short-handed to be able to reach the deck quickly, but it's not absolutely required.

Recommendations for boat trailer dealers Seattle

Looking for a small trailer for a 16ft inflatable in the Seattle-Tacoma area. Maybe even Portland. Any recommendations for who has best prices?

    CASH???

Not necessarily. I sold a boat once, held the closing onboard with the broker and the title agent. The buyer brought a suitcase with $176,000 cash in it, all neatly bundled. We spent about a half hour each taking a pile and counting. Deal closed nice and easy. The buyer owned a very successful...

    Wanted 1984-1989 Tollycraft 40' - diesel

Plus the Cummins are orders of magnitude (ie. logarithmic) quieter than 6V53’s

    Wanted 1984-1989 Tollycraft 40' - diesel

Have you ever measured the noise levels with a db meter on your phone? Curious what your numbers look "sound" like

    66 CL

Was okay, not much in the way of upgrades over the decades. Sad story of husband passing away. A tech-guy who seemed more interested in a huge array of solar and lithium, rather than the more important things. This is located in the northeast Florida region, just outside St Augustine if you know...

    Wanted 1984-1989 Tollycraft 40' - diesel

@Cloe are those the 6V53's in your boat?

    66 CL

I had a contract on that boat, at a much lower price, but walked for 2 big reasons: it's 6000nm away and I didn't like having zero side decks on a vessel of that size.

    Interesting boats

I see a sagging headliner and the exterior paint job so far. What deficiencies/repairs are you seeing that need to be addressed? Other than upgrades like a swim platform.

Very cool boat, except for the 7 ft bowsprit. Hmm, $20 per ft per month x 12 months = ...

What's your favorite shower sump pump?

I like the idea of the automatic one when you have multiple items draining into the shower sump, like stuffing box drip trays, shower, sink, etc.

Analysis of DD 6V53 oil samples

Appreciate the feedback. I don't have the hours between oil change unfortunately. The genset is strange as it has low hours, is original to the boat, yet the analysis (lead, iron, pretty much every other metal) indicates that it's in sorry shape internally. The soot in the marine gear does not...

Analysis of DD 6V53 oil samples

Appreciate some feedback on these oil samples, compared to maximum allowable, and in consideration of the engine hours. Not sure if these are souped up J&Ts, but they are 400 hp and 2500 hours. Unfortunately there is no feedback on how the previous owner has operated them, but I've often read...

    Back up Craigslist seeker

You guys are thinking about a different Willard. I viewed that boat a couple of weeks ago over at Foss Marina. Met the lady owner. Okay condition but too small for our needs - personally I think you need to reach about 34-36 feet before the boat becomes comfortable for use longer than a weekend...

Mainship Pilot II 30 salon floor replacement

That’s some rather bad damage. How about considering a modern LVP in a contemporary color and grain. Get away from the traditional nautical motif.

    Is Autopilot Necessary In PNW?

Your post @Cig brings back memories of my old Wood Freeman with the 4" flat card compass, relays and chain drive off of what I believe was a starter motor. I had a slight oil leak from the pressure gauge drop exactly onto the contacts (the relay was open, did not have a clear plastic cover)...

Manatee needs a new engine, what to do?

IF you plan on a long term own… … then I agree with @Mac2. Use the bad engine to chew the seller down even more. Just the threat of pulling out helps you to negotiate lower. But don’t overpower - that alone will save you significant money.

    Is Autopilot Necessary In PNW?

I've always enjoyed hand steering. My day guests do also. Your initial cruising will likely be short and frequent where you don't require it, then as you grow more comfortable and confident, your trips will get longer where it will come in more handy especially during evenings where situational...

    Sales taxes & Ownership

I wanted to go back to some previous comments which sounded like if a foreign vessel (on a cruising permit) stays in WA or CA, that there are State cruising fees due. Obviously the foreign vessel is exempt from sales or use tax, but this permit requirement sounds strange and I wanted to clarify.

    Insurance

Wife and I just viewed a Willard Vega 30 yesterday. Very cute boat. Seemed like an economical weekender. Wish it had been a 40 footer. Same age as yours and I’m thinking what about just going liability/enviro only. Satisfy the marina and save good change annually. Btw it would look so much...

    Fishing from a trawler

So that's what you call those things! I had to Google it just now. When I had my boat in the Persian Gulf we fished with those hand-spools. All I ever caught were these big, gross cuttlefish. I was more successful spearfishing.

Manatee needs a new engine, what to do?

Wondering why the slam against Cummins from China. I would think that there's a good chance that any spare parts you buy here in the State probably were manufactured there as well. Do you have solid evidence of defective materials/workmanship from Chinese Cummins, or is that just a personal...
