    "Batwing" stabilisator

In the original picture it looks like the batwing design will fit the contour of the hull when retracted giving a dock friendly profile. The batwing design may be more about practical considerations than more efficient design.

    Work While Cruising Idea

Sounds like you will be a full time cruiser, not a liveaboard.

    The Case for Going Slow

My wife loves to go slowly, never fast. For me, once in a while I would like to go fast but fast for my boat is 9.5knots WOT on both engines.

Your go to rule for fuel reserve management

I have 700 gallons useable on board and burn 3.25 gph @7.2 knots and includes generator use. The farthest I have pushed it was 1,185miles leaving myself with 165 gallons left or 365 miles in reserve or 24%. I do not have fuel gauges so I dip the 4 tanks every couple of days when cruising.

    Shaft Keel Bushing part needed?

Barnacles grow very fast. I think we are looking at the cutlass bearing housing full of barnacles.

Looks like you made it home. What a trip.

    What are these hoses for?

If they are 5/8" ID, they are most likely AC pan drains.

A BIG THANKS to all of you!!!

I will bet that many had written you off and were worried you would abandon and run. Congratulations, it takes persistence to finish a job like that.

    Attempted Piracy?

Not good miles from anywhere. At least you had enough fuel and speed to put some distance between them and you. Pirates in a slow boat, that is a new one for me.

    Suggestions needed for removal

In the picture provided, the tube looks to be made of bronze, not stainless and the wear is classic shaft rubbing through, not corrosion.

    Suggestions needed for removal

Keep in mind that the propeller shaft log is not considered a wear item and was designed to last the life of the boat. That shaft is suppose to run in the center of the log and not touch and wear the sides. That wear is caused by a problem and the most likely problem is unstable motor mounts...

    Suggestions needed for removal

Are you actually solving the problem with the shaft log with replacement? Looks like the prop shaft wore out the bottom of of the log. Probably due to collapsed motor mounts. If the motor mounts are replaced or adjusted you can probably center the shaft and epoxy the bottom of the log back to...

    Dumb Newb Questions

I can give you somewhat of a realistic budget from the standpoint of a single DIY'er retired boater leading a good liveaboard life. First of all, you are never a liveaboard, you are a full time cruiser. North in fresh water in the summer and south to fresh water in the winter. Fresh water is...

    Hello from MD

There is one of those sitting right beside my boat in heated storage at the moment.

    Dumb Newb Questions

First of all, welcome to the idea of boating as a way of life. Indeed, your post is a recurrent post and one that tugs on the heart strings. I am quite confident that I have the knowledge to comment on your post. I can fix any system on a boat and have the boating experience and the funding...

    Alternative to teak

If you are replacing the teak because it is badly worn you could go over the Homestead Hardwoods in Vickery and dig through the teak pile. Cut a length of teak square and shape it by hand to a half round and replace it. There are plenty of options here in Ohio. McMaster Carr might have...

    Is Autopilot Necessary In PNW?

I have a Furuno Navpilot 711C sitting in a box next to my desk as I write this. I ordered it a while ago and did not give it much thought until it arrived. I cannot believe how much looking at it has motivated me. I know very little about autopilots in general having mostly hand steered for...

    Replacing all electronics, Maybe

Revisiting this thread. This is currently the plan I am working towards. The Furuno Navpilot 700C arrives tomorrow with a controller for both stations. I will have this, and a depth sounder for sure this year. I will once again have the boat in heated storage for the winter and will do much...

    Cutless bearing advice

Mine has set screws and I just cut a pipe in half, welded a pounding piece on and hammered the bearing out with the shaft still in. I am pressing a new one in with the prop remover I built. I did this before I read here that this is not how its typically done.

    Sales taxes & Ownership

Ohio is fairly aggressive on sales tax or use tax collection. You are required to register a boat in Ohio after 90 days but must pay the use tax to register the boat. We purchased our boat in Louisiana and motored it back to Ohio. Louisiana has no sales tax on private sales. When we got back...

    Sales taxes & Ownership

some states are different if the boat is purchased from a corporation/trust or purchased by a corp or trust verses by a private individual.

Does not look like and issue to me. Do you have any diesel floating on top of the water coming out of the exhaust?
