Anyone Know What This Is? Large gray cylinder on my steering arm...

Found this, so I'm guessing that the big gray thing is unnecessary to the function of the Raypilot and was probably just left in place when it was installed:

Anyone Know What This Is? Large gray cylinder on my steering arm...

I'm betting you're right. There are two old Raytheon 650 head units aboard and I haven't tested them. They power on and I use them for rudder angle because the old analog ones are dicey and slow to respond. However, I've searched the web for that system and found a lot of pics of it, but none...

Anyone Know What This Is? Large gray cylinder on my steering arm...

Yeah this is separate from the hydraulic cylinder that moves the rudder - I should have specified that.

Anyone Know What This Is? Large gray cylinder on my steering arm...

Like the title says, there's a large gray cylinder on my steering arm. I'd say it's about a foot long and maybe five or six inches thick. It has an electrical cord coming out of it, but the cord is wrapped up and zip-tied to the cylinder. You can see that the connector is just hanging there. I...

American Diesel/Lehman 135 Lift Pump Fitting

Well - I was wrong again apparently. Just heard from Brian at American Diesel - on a *holiday weekend* no less... He said: The inlet fitting is indeed slightly special. The fuel lift pump inlet and outlet sizes are 5/16" SAE (Standard Automotive Equivalent) <Recesses> flare, thus deeper...

American Diesel/Lehman 135 Lift Pump Fitting

I got it. I'm a moron. The "flare" fitting on the pump is not really a "flare," - the threads are NPT - with a taper - and the threads on the fitting I purchased are IPS - no taper. So any NPT fuel line fitting from any auto parts store should work with pipe dope.

American Diesel/Lehman 135 Lift Pump Fitting

Well - I took the old fitting with me to Ace - and the one here doesn't have a thing where you can test the fitting to see what size and thread it is. Instead I dug through the other fittings that had female flares - it fit none of them. What it DID fit was a 1/4 FIP. So I bought a 5/16 X 1/4...

American Diesel/Lehman 135 Lift Pump Fitting

Saw this post on a search: https://www.trawlerforum.com/threads/question-on-installation-of-fuel-lift-pump.70661/ Wondering if it's the same deal and the old o-ring just wore out. It looks like this:

American Diesel/Lehman 135 Lift Pump Fitting

The inlet fitting on my lift pump has been seeping diesel. I thought it was the hose, so I was going to replace it today. When I got the hose off, I found the fitting was loose - and that's what was seeping - so I pulled it off to check it and it's a male flare. I'm betting it's not supposed...

New to me Marine Trader 36 Sundeck - Questions

Hope everyone here is doing well! So - since we got here in October, it's been work my normal 8 to 5 job every weekday, boat work for as long as possible after, and boat work all weekend - then rinse and repeat. In addition, I took two separate weeks of PTO devoted to nothing but working on the...

    WANTED: 10" X 17" Swim Platform Mount

I only need one, I have the other four. Not sure where the wayward one went, but I suppose someone else here in the yard may have picked it up by mistake. It's for an 86 Marine Trader Sundeck, but the mount doesn't have to come from one of those. It would be nice because then the holes would...

    Questions about Primer

After reading the responses here and talking to some others here in the yard, I'm going to agree that in my case, whatever topcoat was applied has was either done incorrectly or has simply aged without being maintained. As such, we will go back and ensure that wherever adhesion is failing, it's...

    Questions about Primer

I've heard probably twenty or thirty different times - in different places from different people - that AwlGrip is next to impossible to repair because it "won't sand right" - along with a list of issues when sanding it that sound like what I'm experiencing. Not sure - maybe it was all people...

    Questions about Primer

So I think my boat was previously painted with AwlGrip. The previous owner passed before we bought her so I can't ask him, and I didn't find any receipts in any of the boxes of records that were on board. Therefore, I don't have any guarantee of this, but when cleaning out the lockers in the...

New to me Marine Trader 36 Sundeck - Questions

Long Time, No Post... It's been a while since I've posted here - we've been very busy however... We usually only get to work weekends because I have a job and the days are short - but I took this whole week off work to try to get as much done as possible. Of course two days into that, our good...

Anyone else out there with a MT 36 Sundeck?

I'm wondering if this one was similarly equipped originally. There was paperwork for some sort of "septic-style" system on board in a box of about 500 different manuals - I will see if I can find it. But it doesn't matter now because that's NOT what's going on any more, LOL And yes - our aft...

Anyone else out there with a MT 36 Sundeck?

I have an 86 model and there are a lot of things about it that don't make any sense upon first glance - sometimes upon second or even third glance. Or - in the worst cases, even after staring at it and contemplating for hours... Therefore, I'm assuming that the PO made changes - and he's no...

    Lehman 135 oil pressure

As Angus said, the quality of the gauges, sending units, and wiring all come into play. Before we got underway the first time in our MT 36 with a Lehman/American 135, I replaced both sending units (oil pressure and temp). When I get ready to do the electrical work, all wiring and gauges will...

New to me Marine Trader 36 Sundeck - Questions

Considering the seller is MarineTradingInternational and you have to pick it up in Toms River, NJ, I'm assuming it was one they had laying around somewhere. I'm sure it was on a boat at some point - but maybe not. I like to try to bring them back to what they were when new, but we said with...

New to me Marine Trader 36 Sundeck - Questions

Holy crap that looks awesome! After seeing that original on eBay, I'm assuming that ours had the carved lat/long lines in it as well when new, and that time just wore everything down. I may try to draw them on there in pencil and then try to carve them back in...
