    Sanding teak trim

If you go back to post 23 you will see a photo of hooked scrapers. Here is a site https://www.chicagohardwoodflooring.com/hardwood-scraper-inch-11 where you can order one. Be sure to get a file to resharpen. It takes a little practice but you will get the hang of it by the end of the job. Rob

    Interesting Book

Because we are so interested in the subject! I'll bet the vast majority of people have no idea that a diesel engine does not use spark ignition. Rob

Mainship Pilot II 30 salon floor replacement

I am wondering if this is a photo of the sole (floor) in your boat. If so, it looks like a teak and holly plywood installation and is repairable. I will say again that I do not think synthetic teak and holly would darken if exposed to water. It really looks like typical water damage to to a...

Mainship Pilot II 30 salon floor replacement

Clark, Post one is your boat? If so, I think it is unusual to have it darken with water. Can you post a shot of your sole? Rob

Removal of Sand/Epoxy finish on foredeck.

Jim, I am always wary of using a belt sander. If you go that route follow Comodave's advise and practice first. A more agressive orbital sander like the Porter Cable 335 might work well. They are easy to find on Craigslist. A 6" Fein orbital disk sander also works very well but they are pricey...

Mainship Pilot II 30 salon floor replacement

Yes but not solid. A typical teak and holly veneer. Yours appears to be the same. Rob

Mainship Pilot II 30 salon floor replacement

Example of a typical sole refinish. Sole 1 before. Sole 2 stripped and oxalic acid wash. Sole 3 coated. Rob

Mainship Pilot II 30 salon floor replacement

Mike, I have refinished many soles like this and worse. After stripping the finish a wash with oxalic acid usually brightens the darkened area. PM me for more details. Rob

    Sanding teak trim

Hook scraper for sure. Very easy to sharpen once you get the hang of it. Takes only seconds and do not have to take to the grinding wheel. The attached photo is a 14' X 22' room. I scraped it rather than rough sand with the edger because I was staining and did not want to have to remove the...

    Wanted: Small Dinghy Chocks

Thanks for the kind words Mark. Forgot to mention that a big factor for us was the Soft Chocks stored in the fly bridge lockers when using the dinghy. The fly bridge/boat deck is free of "toe stubbers". Rob

main thru hull ball valve tight

Rod, I find mine to be very stiff after winter storage. It is a struggle to get it going but loosens up nicely. I have found Ihave to exercise it at least monthly to keep it moving smoothly. No zerk on mine. This Year I will try some waterproof grease from outside before launch. Not sure if it...

T6.354 oil pressure sending unit replacement

After checking connections and wiring as suggested by Comodave consider non Perkins branded senders. I replaced the gauges and senders on my Perkins 6-354T with VDO. Don't remember what senders I used but they were in the $20.00 range. Gauges read in the book specified ranges. Perkins senders...

Jay, I have used them many times both at home and for the boat. Always very good work at a reasonable (not cheap) price. Rob

    Salon FLoor Refinishing....

Satin is much better now at staying in suspension once mixed than in the 60's when we used to add it to gloss. For the surface area of the typical boat cabin once mixed the (satin) finish will stay in suspension. I often do jobs in excess of 500 square feet. It is never necessary to re stir...

    Salon FLoor Refinishing....

Kevin, Don't over think this, use a good quality bristle brush. Now for the contradiction. I have very good luck with cheap 4" chip brush. Don't spend $50.00 on a brush for oil based urethane. As long as you don't flood the floor most products are very good at self leveling. Minwax tends to be...

Regular oil based poly will do fine. I have used maple to substitute for holly. You do have to sort through it some to find a color match. Rob

    caulk gun

Depends on what battery system you have. I have Ryobi so bought that gun. I use it mostly in my flooring business. Feed speed is adjustable. I usually run it at half speed as full will explode the urethane adhesive I use. Rob
