A Question for the "Big Ship" guys

It's their fire pump. They open the anchor wash down to keep from dead heading the pump, but they have the fire pump running in case they have an issue coming into port.

Coast Guard warns of inaccurate AIS data

SoF On the AIS or just in general?

Coast Guard warns of inaccurate AIS data

A tug towing won't have the actual length of the tow, only the size of the tug. Use AIS to get a name then use the VHF. Like you said, you're not going fast so things aren't happening quickly. If you think fleet boats are going to change AIS everytime they move, you've lost your mind. They...

The real question is which anchor should I design the boat around?

Though some tweaks would be needed, I like how that looks. I've been researching a few things, things not talked about here, that would be really innovative and would help market it. Again This isn't something that will happen in the near future, just looking at concepts.

Just curious.... What makes you think I'm absolutely clueless? I come here asking a question, seeing what people think, and somehow that transmits into I think this is easy, I'll be rich, and I have no idea about R&D. Got to love it.

Anyone experiencing trouble with TF app?

It's crashing a lot again. Anyone else having this issue?

    Power Cats for cruising

The fact you already rule something out before even looking at it and think R&D will cost $100 million already says something. I never said it was easy. You like staying in your comfort zone? That's cool. Don't try and fault me because I'm looking to take a chance.

    Power Cats for cruising

Oh how I love how often this app crashes in the middle of a response.... I've given a lot of thought to an aluminum hull, I just don't know how well it would be accepted on the East Coast. It's already hard enough to get most to accept cats as it is. Though I do like the freedom it allows when...

    Help me find a hull

https://norfolk.craigslist.org/boa/d/50-foot-live-aboard-virginia/6629261669.html This may be along the lines you're looking for. Though I love the description... "Has hole in side of diesel block, you can fix it but it's NOT a project boat!"

    Power Cats for cruising

You say its not possible, yet there are boats out there like this. Not sure how you figure it will have no equipment and 4' staterooms, but everyone is open to their own visions. As far as the draft, you act as if a 2ft draft is set in stone. "About a 2ft draft" means it may go deeper, but it...

    Power Cats for cruising

Ok, let me try again since I'm somehow missing people. I'm not trying to build just any power cat. I know they are all over the world, I've had one and they were great. I'm looking to create a cat, with 2 diesels (power cat, not a sailing cat) to do things like travel The Loop, travel around...

    Power Cats for cruising

Just so we're clear b because I think some people have the wrong idea, I'm not looking for a Loop boat. I'm looking to start my own yacht building company and build cat cruisers. I'm just wondering if there's enough demand to make my time worthwhile. Side note, this cruiser wouldn't be the only...

    Power Cats for cruising

Wow, that's impressive. That's wild that it's cheaper to build them in Asia then ship it to the US vs building it here.

    Power Cats for cruising

That's what I don't understand, people who ride on them love them, but the industry is so slow to accept change. How wide are the slips that usually hold 40 footers? A 36ft Grand Banks has a beam of almost 13ft and the beam of the boats I'm looking to build are around 14, maybe slightly...
  22. SaltyDawg86

    Power Cats for cruising

Would a beam of 14ft be too skinny? I'd love to have a sub-$300k price point. I know where some molds are for hulls, I'd just have to reconfigure the top side. Having a mold for the hull would be a huge savings, which would pass along the savings.

    Power Cats for cruising

Does anyone think there's a market or demand for a power cat to make The Loop with or just go on extended cruises? It would be around 37-41ft, displacement hull with twin diesels. I don't know if demand would dictate a 25 kt cruise or put some smaller diesels in and make it about a 15 kt...

    Help me find a hull

I've been eyeballing that boat for a little bit. Too bad I'm not in the trawler market right now, otherwise I would have looked at it already.

Anyone experiencing trouble with TF app?

It crashed on me several times while trying to respond. I've started doing "Select all" then "Copy" because I got tired of having to restart my reply after every crash. I notice it happens the most when I try and correct a misspelled word for some reason.
