What started as a local dock management plan in Pender Harbour has spread to the majority of the Sunshine Coast and is said to be a template for the whole of BC.
Now this is looking like part of a much larger move to change the BC land act.
The provincial government is proposing changes to the land act which will affect all uses of BCs' crown land users. This doesn't just mean recreational users like us, but also includes corporate/industry things like cattle grazing leases, mining leases, dock permits, rights of way etc.
This is big!
This dock management plan needs to be revised and or changed. In its current form, it seems unreasonable, ill informed and will cause hardship for many...not just waterfront owners.

This past decade has shown the new generation righting the perceived wrongs of the previous generations. And they are in a hurry to get it done. Several things have already occurred without consultation against the wish of the majority.

Of course I do not blame the Native Indians for the marina fiasco in Pender harbour or the North shore +++ because they are making their decision on lands they control. I blame those that allowed this to begin decades ago when it was agreed that the nations were robbed of their land 100 years ago, and they should file claim to 110% of BC. They should have said this is how it is now some 100 years later and since that generation are no longer alive and you have lived under our rules, suck it up.

Wow, seems like a difficult situation. I have to say, I’m baffled about the shading issue. I have some waterfront at my cabin where I’m limited as to how much vegetation I can remove so as to not remove the shading. Here at the marina where my boat is, they want to eliminate the shading from the docks. ???

Yep. The Port Orchard Yacht Club just got a proposal from the State of Washington that the boat houses over State property should have more translucent panels on the roof and the inside decking around the boat should be grating, not planks (to allow more light to penetrate to the sea floor).

Washington state seems to be giving the Tribes a seat at the table and say in new legislation. The Governor thanks the tribes for letting us use their lands and resources at the start of many meetings. The irony is much of this is pushed as a move to save the environment, yet many of the tribes actions seem to be quite the opposite. If anybody believes any of this is about anything but money they will figure it out eventually.

Yeah, I have some pretty strong feelings about the tribes use of their lands and resources, and what they are demanding the state to do for them. I can’t state my opinions on a public forum though, and I think TF has some rules regarding that anyway.

Friends in Secret Cove who were pitbulls on this file, say they still have to resolve concerns on the Pender Harbour Dock Management Plan.

These are folks just turned 80 and were more tenacious than those half their age and twice as influential.
