Anyone running the Vatrer Lifepo4 batteries? On the 'marine how to' website Rod Collins recommends them for budget friendly options.

I am specifically looking at this one, but is a self-heating an absolute must have? I only plan on running a small fridge and maybe charge a tablet/phone run through an 800w inverter although a friend offered me a 3000 watt inverter that I will take a look at, but I am really leaning toward the Victron 800 watt.

I think for now I will just charge it when on shore power with a charger specific for Lifepo4 batteries.

We are just weekend warriors and the occasional anchor out.

Go with the larger inverter/ charger. It will give you future room to expand your 110 usage and be able to handle the shock loads of motors ( like in a refrigerator) It will come with higher charging capacity that the lifepods love. Run a minimum of 2 life pods. That way if a bms shuts you down you still have another battery available for use.

Take a look at LiTime batteries. Great track record and excellent prices. Approved by Will Prowse on YouTube.

I went with Epoch, for a few reasons.
#1, also recommended by Rod at MHT, And also Panbo.
#2, heated, because I boat in Maine
#3, Bluetooth reporting, This is absolutely necessary so you can know the health of your system.
Yes, a few dollars more but I felt worthwhile.
Also, great customer support, I called in and they called back same day, and it was a Saturday!

Yes, the Vatrer I ordered also is self heating and has Bluetooth. We are in Vermont but get pulled out every winter, so I most likely bring the battery home.

Might want to look at SOK batteries. They are reportly very well made and have nice features.

One thing you may want to look out for are batteries that have a lot of extra space inside the case. Others have the case full. There is nothing wrong with batteries that don't fully use the space inside the case other than they will take up more space in your boat without any added capacity. Lots of videos online that show teardowns of Li batteries so you can see what's inside the case of the battery you are interested in.

Initially thought Vatrer was a trypo for well known Euro battery mfr Varta. Have they been around long?

I don’t know how long they have been in existence. They faired well on a disassembly review. Their batteries can be purchased with cold sensors, self heating capability and Bluetooth reporting. The pricing is very reasonable. I do not have any information on their customer support.

Eco-worthy is 20% cheaper but you give up cold sensors and Bluetooth.

Yes, they had the same batteries without BT and no heating for around 188. I haven't received my battery yet but did wire in my victron dc2dc charger and like the Bluetooth capabilities on that. Since I didn't get my house battery yet it runs as a power supply off my start bank to power my inverter. The inverter only runs my small fridge but I'm not sure the inverter I was gifted is compatible with my fridge. I may be investing in a victron inverter in the near future.
