I remember my trip back in 2000. That was a great trip. The Champlain Canal was sweet. When we stopped at Fort Edward we went to a really good restaurant called the Black Angus or Bull just down the street from the town dock.

Do they still have political discussions on the steps of the marina office at Chipman's Point? They must be wild these days.

Wish I had more pictures of that part of the trip but I ran out of film. Remember film?

Absolutely, we solve all the world’s problems on that front stoop.
I believe I still have some rolls of 35mm film undeveloped, not sure what might be on there.

I went North on the Champlain canal when I looped in 2022. What a fantastic part of my journey.

Lk Champlain & Champlain Canal is just one of the great side trips / mini loops that some of the Great Loopers by pass.
Some return for multi seasons to exp, ore, experience. & enjoy the great clean fresh water cruising the NE has to offer.
The Rideau had limitations this season but normally the Rideau, Ottawa Rvr, Lk Champlain, 1,000 Is, Lk Ont, Trent Severn are wonderful

I hope you continue to post pictures. I have been thinking about doing the Erie Canal next year. Haven't decided if I should also explore the Champlain Canal - I love Lake Champlain, but it is a long round trip. How many days did you take from the Lake to the start of the Erie Canal?
And a random question, what was the height of that bridge in the third pic in your post?
Have a great rest of your trip!

We only went as far as Amsterdam NY. They weather wasn’t the greatest and our departure was delayed a couple days and we decided to head back to Lake Champlain a couple days early to enjoy the Fourth of July festivities at the marina with friends.
The lowest bridge on the Champlain canal is around 15 1/2 feet but they will lower the pool if you ask them. It is between lock 3 and 4. Generally if you are under 17’ you will have no issues with the rest of the canal, unless there is high water.
We generally do the Champlain canal in two days stopping at the free wall in Fort Edward. There is also a free wall in Mechanicville with free pumpout, and a free walk in Whitehall. All 3 with power and water.
I don’t take a lot pictures but will post some more with a bit of a trip summary.
We put on 50 hours of runtime on our Ford Lehman for that trip using around 65 - 70 gallons of fuel.
