Thinking ahead to the Winter Project of teak deck removal.... since I'm going to be fairing and glassing the deck anyway, is there any reason NOT to move the bench seats back about 6 inches? A guy over 5'10" sure would like to have a bit more legroom at the helm.

Are there any other minor-tweak changes I should be considering? Something the newer models have that my 1980 was just too early to get?

I don’t see any issues with moving the seats.

While I'd love to have one of those fancy helm seats on a rock solid pedestal that doesn't wobble or creak, I'm leaning toward a center console type two person bench seat. Hard to beat those for a solid feel.

I thought about that for a hot minute, but I haven't yet met the rock solid pedestal that doesn't wobble or creak after the second season.

Me neither. That was my point with the bench type center console approach. I haven't seen one of those that ever wobbled or creaked even after many years.

I bought 2 FG boxes and will mount 6" pedestals/seats on top. More for comfort height than space. Those bench seats were made for dwarfs.
Pics coming when I find them

Marketplace. Was going to mount seats w slides on top., but decided I wanted swivel too. So cut 7" out & glassed. Now Todd seats on top w short pedestal.
