Did Marine Trader ever produce 34 double cabins with Cummins 250hp installed at the factory? (In the early ‘90s? Or ever?) I’m told they did but I cannot find proof of that anywhere. Or have MT 34 DCs been repowered with them? Good? Bad? Buy one if found? Run from it fast? Somewhere in the middle?

Welcome aboard. Call Brian at American Diesel and ask him. His dad, Bob, was an expert on MTs so Brian may know, or may not.

The Cummins are great engines, my personal favorite.

You could also ping the MTOA (Marine Trader Trawler Owners Association).

Greetings,
Mr. MT. It is entirely possible. Asian boat building seems to be a bit helter skelter. Same brand and size of boat might be substantially different than her sistership. Could be two or three different yards producing the "same" boat. Also might be a smaller builder got a good deal on say 6 or 8 Cummins and simply installed them in the next 6 or 8 hulls that went out the door.

I know that Albin put Cummins 6BTs in some of their 40 ft trawlers in that era.
(likely in their 36s as well).

My 34 dc has a Cummins bt6 250 hp original to boat and I’m very happy with it. Runs well, easy to get parts, and easy to service it.
