New member to the group and first trawler (have a sailboat). Put in a contract on 1997 Camano Troll 31. Boat survey, engine survey, and oil analysis to be scheduled. Noticed in looking at interior that one of the horizontal sliding windows has a missing closing latch. Are there replacement latches or alternative latches? Also some of the plastic dome covers on the interior lights are brittle and broken. Are there replacement domes or suggestions for replacing the fixture. I am sure I will have more questions after the surveys. Input greatly appreciated.

Sometimes cheaper/easier/better to replace old lights with new LED fixtures.

Cannot help you on the window issue but fortunately even on my 1976 Hatteras the old parts are usually available or something else can be retrofitted.

Welcome! Great choice for me 7 years ago. Steve Zimmerman class on picking the right boat for your cruising waters, duration of cruises, # of people on board, and more was especially helpful, and the fit works.
Window clasp seems generic for sliding windows, RV store might be a good place to look. Light fixture maybe, also.
My main mistake, didn’t have fuel polished before delivery cruise. Had to flip to back up in lump sea off of Cape May. My mistake. Talk to your mechanic about fuel polishing. Could have been bad.
Boat gets compliments from Mechanics, dock walkers who like traditional design, etc.. We cruise in the 7’s, fairly economical. Bristol RI to Washington, NC was trip of a lifetime, but others do the Great Loop. Where do you plan to cruise? Boat feels right at home in NC’s Pamlico and Albemarle sounds and river systems…small trawler Heaven. Chesapeake, too.

Enjoy your Camano! Check Camano TF forum, both coasts’ Camano associations.

Thanks for your reply. Boat survey, engine survey and oil analysis scheduled for Friday. Any chance you know the location and number of thru hulls.

MWhit,

If you really want some of the dome light covers, I’m about to remove all 10 lights (so 20 domes) from my troll and swap to LED flat panel fixtures. Id be willing to send you what you need for just the cost of shipping. Like others mentioned and Im doing, I’d just swap the whole fixture but thats a preference call.

As for thru hulls, it’s going to depend on how the boat is equipped. I can think of 4 on mine below the waterline - engine, generator, air conditioning and raw water wash down seacocks. Above the waterline, probably 8-12? There are four on the port rear quarter, mainly drains and four on the starboard midships from the head. Also the two cockpit scuppers. I’m sure I’m missing some.

Good luck on your survey. The Troll is a wonderful boat.

Thanks for the information on the number and location of thru hulls. Very interested in the 20 dome covers. How about I reach out to you a couple days after the surveys which scheduled for this Friday.
