Heading South from Annapolis?

Hello All.

We are heading south towards Florida next week hopefully from Annapolis on our Mainship 400 and it always makes trips more enjoyable when you able to get together after the end of a long day of chug-chugging to swap lies with other like-minded boaters.

If you happen to be joining the heard, like us, please reply with your boat name and approximate date so we can all keep in touch.
If I see you on AIS i will likely annoy you and call you just to say hello....LOL.

Hello, thanks for the reply, we have no plans as of yet to venture back over to the Bahamas but you never know. We are heading to Cape Canaveral for the winter with a short stop at our home port of Savannah for repairs. We are in Beaufort NC for the night and then continuing south tomorrow. My Lewmar Concept 3 Windlass gearbox failed while anchored in Hampton so I guess I am the windlass until I get it replaced...lol

My windlass motor failed a few years ago and I replaced the motor. A year later the motor ran fine but the gears didn't spin. Turned out the "key" between the motor and winch fell out the bottom and was in the anchor well. When I replace the key it worked fine! You might check your anchor well

Roger that, i completely removed the assembly and could see that the gearbox was not even turning the center column where the shaft goes, but yes the key did fall into the anchor well when the windlass was being removed but i spotted it and will use once the replacement unit arrives.

We just made Norfolk. Begin the ICW tomorrow.

If you happen to need fuel, Toprack marina had diesel for $3.08 per gallon, lowest anywhere, even Atlantic yacht basin..

Top Rack has a nice restaurant, too. In Belhaven, NC, Valv-Tect is available at Dowry Creek Marina. River Forest Manor and Marina is a good place to dock in town. An amazing restaurant nearby is Spoon River - a delight, and innovative, attractive interior, too.

We are planning on leaving Annapolis as well approximately 11/6 heading to Stuart, FL. Hope to see you on the water.

Top Rack's has best prices for quite some time.. although we've taken to timing any arrivals there because of the cross-current. Not horrible, but responds to planning. Coincidentally., we've not ever been there when the restaurant was actually open. Mondays. I think, a couple of times. And then the Covid year as we were returning to Annapolis from our winter in Jacksonville.

Dowry Creek has its own restaurant too, finally. Decent, casual live music when we were there. Nice marina, although not great if there's serious storm winds out of the south... which is what we had when we came home from down south last Spring. The marina folks were up and down the dock all night long, dealing with potential issues...
