I have Noflex and it is really good. I also have used straight sodium percarbonate as a preventive. It also seems to work well. However, I’ve got a bubbler in the tank so with or without No-flex or sodium percarbonate, I never have any odor. Unless I have turned off the bubbler for an extended period with contents in the tank. That odor disappears after an hour or so of turning the bubbler bank on on.

I switched from Noflex to generic sodium percarbonate. For me it works better, but that's probably because now I'm not so stingy with it. That Noflex stuff was too expensive to waste!

Hi Dave,
Thanks for documenting and posting your bubbler project. Did you install this on two holding tanks?(as the bait bubbler was made for two tanks) This would be ideal for us as we have two tanks, and it is intended for marine use.

I guess that is something that I failed to mention in the description. I’ll try and do that.

The bubbler is designed to have two air outputs. That is so it could aerate two bait tanks, or one larger tank by T-ing the two hoses together. I think it even came with the hose T.

So I have a 50 gallon black tank. It works really well on that size of tank. I’m not sure if a single feed would work as well. The manufacturer of the Bubbler says it will work with 1 or 2 live wells up to a total of 35 gallons. Since live wells are often packed with lots of bait, the O2 demand would be much higher in that situation than keeping bacteria happy in our holding tanks.

You might check to see what Groco recommends for their Sweetank product to get an idea of what air flow is needed per gallon of waste. My guess is that mine would work well up to 80 gallons. So if you had two 40 gallon holding tanks, it might do just fine. Larger than that, and I would be skeptical. However, it would be easy to install one and see how it goes. If it isn’t adequate, just install a second one right next to it, using the same power source and then just T the second bubbler into the hoses you ran for the first. The devices are inexpensive and the only difficult part is at the holding tank end and maybe running hose.
