    Boat Size Considerations

Markpierce - Love your boat. Looked at the Seahorse Marine Diesel Ducks and saw they made the Coot also. Not sure why they call it a Coot though. Appreciate your input! I think you meant Wade. Thank you Pau Hana for the offer. Where do you moor your boat? Peter B - I definitely don't disagree...

    Boat Size Considerations

Ok thanks. I'm trying to weigh out if I want twins or a single. Part of me wants twins for the redundancy but I also know that diesels are very reliable as long as they're taken care of and the fuel is clean. Double engines, double costs for the most part although I don't think it's linear like...

    Boat Size Considerations

CPseudonym:$15K translates to what...~3000 gal's of fuel? At 60 feet it must have been a Nordhavn! :D But I get your meaning...bigger the boat, more $$ to feed. A 50ft Marine Trader MY with twin Perks is about 5 gal/hr at about 6knts according to an owner. I'd like to see lower but I realize I...

    Boat Size Considerations

I think my question is being misunderstood. I appreciate all that have provided input. I absolutely understand that boat size and layout is dependent upon the individual and what they are going to do/what they need. I also understand that we need to experience different boats and that is our...

    Boat Size Considerations

GFC - thank you for your thoughtful answer. Being a member of a yacht club is something I should consider. Thanks for your reply, Bobofthenorth. Understand what I was asking was kinda open ended. My intent though, since we're so far away from pulling the string on buying a boat, was to see if...

    Boat Size Considerations

I searched the forum and found a few nuggets of info regarding this topic but decided to post to try to get a little more specificity. We are not currently boat owners and have never owned a boat larger than 20ft. We intend to charter the larger boats to get a feel for what we like/dislike. Our...

    Interesting Trawler in Anacortes

Thanks. I can see your point and I didn't even think about motorcycles or that it's probably the similar engines in the Great Harbor 37' boats and from what I've been told, the GH's aren't noisy at cruise. Looks like they are non-turbo so power density is lower=long life with good maintenance...

    Interesting Trawler in Anacortes

7knts at 3050 RPM...wouldn't that be noisy? What would be the expected life of those engines...probably not much more than 3000 or 4000 hours? 5000 max if well maintained? Love the design, though...twin keels. :smitten:I wonder why more manufacturers don't do this. Great Harbor, KK and...

    Whole boat networked electronics

Ok great. I'll dig more into this. Thank you. We will...when we get a boat. In the dreaming/planning stage so sometimes my ideas are not based in reality.:o Thank you all for your insights.

    Whole boat networked electronics

Ok thanks everyone. I'll maybe do some more poking around as suggested but won't consider this as a serious endeavor for our boat.

    Whole boat networked electronics

Hello TF members, I searched the forum but couldn't find this topic. Maybe I didn't use the correct search terms... I was wondering if there is a way to have a multi-use system on a boat that does it all? What I'm envisioning is a networked system that you can watch TV (satellite or over the...

    Aft versus Forward Cabin

What a coincidence...I was going to post this question myself when I could not find anything in past posts. So I'm interested in the responses. I don't wish to hijack your OP, but in the name of efficiency, maybe I could add to this as well? How about those of us that might do over night or...

    The ultimate trawler

So if I'm dreaming, and I'm basing this on what I know now (which isn't much), I'd like: 1.) Stand-up engine room. 2.) Semi-displacement hull...not sure about this yet though. 3.) Capable of up to maybe 12-15knts max (semi-displacement of course). 4.) Mid master berth 5.) Correct sized engines...

Anyone own, owned or know about Marine Trader 50 MY's?

Wow. Very nice. So you feel these are less top heavy than the MT50? My inexperienced eye doesn't see much difference between the DeFever 60 and the MT 50. I realize one can't really compare the two vessels...it would be like a Cadillac to a Chevy but it seems the proportions are similar.

Anyone own, owned or know about Marine Trader 50 MY's?

So in my quest for knowledge, I'm interested in why you thought this was too top heavy? Her draft is 4'8", full displacement hull, and 46000 lbs. Righting moment not good? I saw the MT 49 as well and really like the looks...more trawler-like (in my mind anyway). The wife likes the MT 50 because...

Thanks. Did you ever take one out for a sea trial or did it not get that far in the pre-purchase?

Anyone own, owned or know about Marine Trader 50 MY's?

I haven't found anything in this area on YW. I think there's like five of them listed in the entire country. Although I don't believe these came with singles. At least not sure how they could unless the engine room was designed differently. I thought MT 50's all had an engine room for each...

Anyone own, owned or know about Marine Trader 50 MY's?

I tried to search this but nothing came up. I've communicated with one owner and he was very helpful...might even be on this forum. Just looking for another perspective. Thanks.

    GPH 430 Ocean Alexander w/Twin 5.9 Cummins

I have been told, by a professional who knows diesels and train in the maintenance and repair of such, that running the engines up to about 100% load every 15 minutes each hour is indeed recommended to prevent the carbon build-up on higher horsepower engines. Cummins are excellent...

What do you think about this draft?

Is everyone clear on the fact that there are two styles of the GH boats? I get the impression the concerns expressed are being equally described for each type. I can definitely see that the GH series (floating condo) would have issues with windage but the N-series (work boat with aft...
