    suface rust

Well this may be way expensive but a good welder that is really good with stainless could add metal to the damaged area and then grind and buff it to a new finish with no evidence of a repair. Or if need be cut and fit a new section right there on the boat. We have a welder here in New Bern...

    North Pacific Yachts

AKA Nordhavn 40 or Selene 38. You remember the four days worth of posts about the effectiveness of the Bridge windows sloping aft from top to bottom or aft from bottom to top as opposed to vertical. Just poking the bear.

We all know the boat you own, what's your daily driver?

2010 VW Jetta Diesel 71k gets 37 in the city and 44 on the highway, wife's driver, 2010 Mercedes Benz C300 32k gets 28.5 highway and 25.4 overall since new, my driver.

But you would have thought they would have gotten the windows sloping the right way.:)

What do you think about this draft?

There you go using logic. No room for that with some folks.

What do you think about this draft?

Well I just couldn't help myself. Back in the 60's there was a famous race car driver named Jim Clark. On a lark with some of the other drivers Clark drove a large Lorrie around Brands Hatch to with in 10 or 15 seconds of the track record. So even a bus with the right driver can go fast...

What do you think about this draft?

So true on a sail boat if you have just 25% of the head sail out it works like a "Storm Jib" or 'Mule". But then again most folks with roller furling, of which I would not do without, don't know about either of the two sails I mentioned. I did say this before but Kens son and daughter have...

    Sealant Shelf Life

For small tubes I found that after you use some cover the top with plastic wrap and then screw the lid back on tight. Kept a small tube active for over a year and used it many times for little projects until the cap finally got weak and cracked.

What do you think about this draft?

Gents, i have looked this over and have a few comments. Up front I have been personal friends with Ken Fickett, builder of GH) and his wife Becky for just about 30 years. That said I have no financial interest in his company or any of the boats he has for sale. Ken has some specific ideas...

    GFI outlets?

A GFI if placed in a string of plugs, if wired properly will protect the complete string. The instructions are in the box with the GFI.

Here is how to increase the charge voltage of alternator

Why not have the internal reg removed and the Alt converted to external control? $50 - $75. Then use an external regulator like the Balmar ARS -5 and be done with it with in a few hours and for about $300. No guessing no taking the Alt apart three times. The ARS series are adjustable to what...

Wanted: 42-55' Trawler for Long Term Lease 4/14-10/14

Let me see if I have this picture correct. They own a Million dollar + house, He flies a Corporate jet for a living, she Captained a 48' boat for several years and you think they may want to show up at the dock with a derelict, run down boat that someone hasn't been able to sell so that they...

Ignition/Flash Points of Diesel – vs – Gasoline Liquids and Vapors

Art, Diesel has a Flash Point of >62 °C(144 °F) and an Autoignition of 210 °C (410 °F) Gas on the other hand is −43 °C (−45 °F) and Autoignition of 280 °C (536 °F). So as one can see gas has a wider range of ignition temps than Diesel. Both by Spark or Auto. As far as spark goes I was...

    34 Trawler bilge leak

This is common on the 2004 -2009 34t. The most likely problem is easily fixed. On both sides of the boat there are two fill points. On the port side it is Fresh Water and Fuel and on the starboard it is Waste Water (Pump Out) and Fuel. There are several screws on each side that hold the...
