    Double the expense?

"A hell of a lot of money spent on a vessel that is the worst of both worlds." Maybe. On the other hand, my Fales 32 is a motorsailer that is a confortable, seawothy, full displacement trawler. that cruises at hull speed while sipping fuel. I find that the sails will work good enough off the...

New Set of Spoons for my Trika

Like Eric, I have a Point Defiance skiff. Shaw and Tenny oars. Mine are 8'6" and having got used to them, I wouldn't want anything shorter. I put a oar lock on the stern for sculling. I can get up a very narrow creek with the sculling oar, slow but doable. Ches

Boat Name - Reason for yours

The PO ran a boat yard. He named her "Diogenes" as he was always looking for a honest man. I bought the boat from his widow and felt it was such a personal name, I removed the name boards and gave them to his wife. After a long time, I named the boat "Shaman". She takes me on magical trips.

    Bicycles

If you are really a high roller, you might like this, MOULTON Bicycle Company Stainless, and while it doesn't fold, it comes apart. Only about $20,000.00 (yes, I have ridden one) Ches

    Hurricane Florence

My sailboat is in same marina as Skinny Dippin. From pics, it still floats. Sadly, Shaman (Fales Navigator) was on the hard. Most of the boats floated off stands and are on the ground. No idea of damage. I can't get down to New Bern because of blocked roads. My sailing club is totally...

    Interesting boats

Is there a place that doesn't have at least 2 tidal change in 24 hours? __________________ Yep, Pamlico and Albermarle Sound in NC. Wind tide only. (well maybe 1" or so of lunar tide)

    Binoculars

Just received Fuji 12x32 Jr. These have two levels of stabilization. There is a non stabilized mode. Then there is a low level mode of stabilization that lets one scan without the "swimming image". When you find your target, push the power button and full stabilization kicks in. Haven't used...

Why didn't I think of this?

Just saw one in person. It's at least 2x thicker than a regular 3$ bucket and made of different plastic. Appears much tougher. The question is just tough does a plastic bucket need to be? Oh yeah, the lid is $25.

Single Screw Handling in Following Seas

I used to have a 26' Pacemaker with a single 350 gas engine. The thing would broach at the drop of a hat if any 2' wave hit the stern. Everybody said "stay on the back of the wave" Didn't have enough power to do that coming in a inlet. I finally starting coming in dead slow and letting waves go...

    Documentation?

I re-doumented a boat just purchased. I just called the USCG doc. center and they were amazingly helpful. Walked me thru the whole process and didn't make me feel stupid. Only problem was that it took 3 months to receive my doc.papers. I believe that's par for the course. Ches Fales Navigator...

Outside helm station, but not a flybridge

"Shaman" has the same helm arrangement as "Boomarang".(not nearly as nice as "boomerang". Not surprising as the are both Fales. The previous owner told me they rarely used the lower helm unless caught out in bad weather. She also said her husband would stand on the walkway and control the boat...
