    Chest Freezer

I have an Engel which is likely 10 years old. Always works great, quiet, and doesn't use much power. I'm sure the newer models are even better.

    Impeller Cover Plate leak

It Works!! I ended up flipping the cover plate. The inside was scored and the outside had no serial numbers or engravings, so I sanded it first, cleaned it and ended up cutting a new gasket from gasket paper I bought at an engine parts store. I first coated both sides of the new gasket with...

Lessons Learned When Changing Racor Filters

My racor 500 filters have guages on top where the average has the T handle. I've never changed the filters myself, so assuming the guage on top turns in the same way the T handles do. Am I on the right track?

    Impeller Cover Plate leak

Thanks all...I will check out Speedseal Murray, thanks. Larry, I cleaned the plate on both sides with a wire brush and it looked almost like new. Maybe a wire brush should not be used, not sure. I will remove the plate and try a new ( thicker) gasket and possibly flip the plate. I did notice...

    Impeller Cover Plate leak

I changed the impeller the other day on a 1986 Westerbeke generator and when tested, it leaked water at the base of the cover plate ( drip per second ). I cleaned the cover plate inside and out and covered the new paper gasket with a coating of oil prior to screwing it back in place. Checked the...

    Varnishing over Caulk

All,** Thanks all for quick reply. If every time I had a question in everyday life that was answered so thoroughly as this, life wood be a breeze! I will consider both epoxy and caulk, but I'm leaning toward caulk. Epoxy is great stuff, however possibly too permanent for this application. I...

Superdiver, The helm chair does take up alot of room, read my previous post ( about 6 posts up ). I feel there is ample room to pass through the door, when the footrest is UP. I'm 6' tall and 178 pounds, so I don't need too much room but as I expand over the years, this could be a problem! Hope...

Dave, I did not make any changes to the salon lighting....yet. They are the standard ceiling mounted lights, and I don't really use them that often, seem a little bright. I like lamps better. they make the space feel homey and give off a softer light. Also a lamp shade sheilds the bulb. The...

    Varnishing over Caulk

Hello all, I am in the process of refinishing my teak caprails on my 41' PT Europa trawler. I have removed the old varnish and ready to start the process of recoating. After much research on varnishes, my choice thus far is Epifanes. My question is:* Where the upper fiberglass deck supports (...

Thanks Reefdrifter, The teak and holly floor is original. Used to be mostly covered with rugs, but I like to see the wood better.

Dave, Congrats on your 5K winnings! Maybe its your lucky year. I moor Cantina in Newport Beach Harbor. We don't have much time for extended cruises, so we have been cruising to Catalina Island for 3 and*5 night trips where our yacht club has a landing. ( About 27 miles out from the mainland) Its...

Greetings from Southern Cal. Cantina is a 1986 PT Europa Sedan Trawler. I bought her @ the Tacoma Yacht Club in August 2008 and had a skipper bring her down to Newport Beach where we've kept her since. Havn't been too far from home, but many trips to Catalina. Hope you enjoy the pictures. --...

Dave, I see your layout is very similar except for the nav station. Will come in handy for that cruise up the coast. Looks very nice inside, like new! The helm chair in mine was installed by me in 2008. I did not alter the space for the chair. There is about 2" behind the backrest to the cabinet...

Dave, Here are a couple* more shots of Cantina. I'm curious about the layout of your 42. I assume the PT did not change too drastically in a year. Thats Nina, my wife and McKenna, my daughter @ the wheel. Later.

Hi Dave, My email is:* michaelmartinarchitect@cox.net I will try to send more photos of my boat in the near future and hope to see more of yours as well. The 41s are scarce and I have not come across any 42s like yours either. I've been surfing the net and talking to other PT owners since sep...

Hi Dave, Welcome aboard!, I joined Trawler Forum last Jan. however have not been too active, sort of forgot about it, needless to say, it is a great source of information especially for older boats. As you might have already discovered, there are not alot of PTs around. It has been fun searching...

    PT 38 Sedan

Mike, In the 17 months I've owned Cantina ( 41 PT europa sedan ), I haven't come across another. I know these trawlers were not made for long, but I'm beginning to wonder if I have the only one! There seems to be alot of 38s both tri-cabin & sedans and a few 41" tri-cabins, but no 41 sedans...
