    Another new start for Helmsman

As a follow up to post #1649, one thing I should have mentioned is that I have “ear muffs” on the engine vents that prevent air flow through the engine room. We had two straight days and nights of greater than normal fog and rain with readings around 70% humidity with no problems on the boat...

    Isolation Transformer Neutral Ground Connections

Notice the wording in the second paragraph limits conformance (with the exception of no shield) to the ABYC standard to a polarized set up, as opposed to it being set up as an isolation transformer. It does state that the wiring is potted which was one of my two original concerns with the...

    Isolation Transformer Neutral Ground Connections

Seaboy, You may have already seen this in regards to the Bridgestone products. Please take a look at the comments section of the SeaBits article. Both Charlie and Jim are long time advisors on electrical issues. Charlie is active on Cruiser Forum. Jim works with ABYC on E-11. He is extremely...

    Isolation Transformer Neutral Ground Connections

Seaboy, I am not an electrician, but I have studied these transformers and have two Victron IT’s on my boat. I would be wary of having the shore side ground unattached in case of a failure of the transformer itself. The concern is that the transformer fails through an inherent defect, lightning...

    Resilient Has Landed

No. We opted not to install one. We use the upper deck for entertaining. I plan to put davits on the swim platform.

    Internet on the water

We have the flat panel Starlink and have had no issues with the service. We haven’t been to the Bahamas yet, though.

If you need continual access, Starlink would be the best. Take a look at this site. These folks review different approaches for boats and RV’s. https://www.rvmobileinternet.com/planpicks/

    Another new start for Helmsman

So, my boat is in its slip for January and February. She is winterized (just in time for the recent winter weather. I have a Temp Stick on board that reports temps and humidity on board. I moved it around during the cold snap. Bear in mind this is without running the heat, or having heaters on...

    Resilient Has Landed

On my 38, I attached a Wyze camera to the aft flybridge rail pointing down to the swim platform. That has made backing a simple process. It is viewable on a tablet and a phone. I also put one on the light standard off the arch to serve as a rear view camera, that works really well. To do so...

    Ceramic coating?

Yes, I will strip the boat of the polymer, prior to applying the Permanon. When you receive the boat, it should look new, just off the assembly line, so to speak. Then I would give the boat a good cleaning with hot water and dawn detergent. Maybe twice. That should remove any oils left over...

    Ceramic coating?

Helmsman43 boats in the Chesapeake and applied Permanon and it turned out really well. I was on his boat a short while after and it looked great. I plan to apply it to my Helmsman this spring. The first spring I went with a polymer wax due to time constraints. I applied it to one of our cars...

    engine winterization tools

This is for a system that uses raw water flowing through heat exchangers to cool the Engine antifreeze, the oil, and transmission and then exits the boat with the exhaust to cool the exhaust. Since the raw water flow never goes through engine coolant hoses and is not controlled by the thermostat...

Here are two images of what I use for the smaller through hulls. Works well with no leaks, and the shut off valves on each end along with the quick connect minimizes spills.

I like the idea of seeing it, too.

Never used one like that. The only issue may be that it flattens from the pressure.

    engine winterization tools

They use a water hose fitting. But, that is for the smaller through hull fittings for the HVAc, and generator. The advantage to the flush cap is that you can maintain prime, by vacuuming the water out of the strainer bowl, replacing it with AF, and then gravity feeding the Af and ensuring bubble...

I use a SeaFlush for the engine. It comes with its own hose. I use an Eco Trac flush cap for the gennie, HVAC, and anchor wash down. I sent you a PM.

My Cummins 6.7 took 9 gallons before the AF showed up in the exhaust. I am pretty certain some of that was clearing the water muffler.

That is chilly! We are expecting single digits for a day or so this week. It was 27 this morning, and the ER was 43 degrees per a temp stick with water temps around 53 degrees. I also checked with a temp gun (outside temp 34 by then) which showed the walls in the shower and the head to be 41...

Here are a couple of flush options for perko. https://www.perko.com/images/catalog/catalog_320_pdf/sections/underwater_hardware_catalog_320.pdf The top option uses water under pressure, which I wouldn’t use. The next one with the hose attachment would allow a gravity feed for the Antifreeze...

I don’t know, Paul. Maybe someone who has those types of through hulls will weigh in.

Yes, those type work better with the Seaflush, but if you can’t fit it in there, you will need to try one of the other options.
