We will be south of that.

Thank you , sir. We will get back out on it soon. Headed to Baltimore to help a fellow Helmsman owner de-winterize his and go for a ride up the Chesapeake to Annapolis.

    Another new start for Helmsman

We had the same thing happen in St Marteen on a sail cat. The water maker wouldn’t work and the generator crashed about 4 days in. Pretty miserable trip. We were looking at one boat before we went with a Helmsman. My wife walked on, took one Quick Look around, and after the door knob to the...

In all seriousness, they are great to deal with. And truly do care about their customers.

Yes they are. They genuinely care about your experience. Down to earth folks that are honest, straight forward, and just kind people. I think it is Lisa Helker! She keeps the men focused on what is important! ?

    Another new start for Helmsman

It is a funny thing, isn’t it? Sitting on a boat that you would have never thought you might own, on a really nice day, de-winterizing and thinking about how much fun this summer will be. We are all lucky to have such a great boat. And lucky to have such a good group of people to share each...

    Another new start for Helmsman

I think it should work really well. That will be a damn fine boat. You should consider heading south thru the Panama Canal and up the eastern seaboard, the big u followed by the loop and back to the pacific. Lots of inland rivers to explore, too.

I like the additional room for ideal MFD’s. Chevk out Furuno’s new XL monitors. There are some pretty good tools coming with them.

    Autonomous marine travel

Interesting. Your thoughts are on point for using an existing tool (autorouting) that works ok for me and can save time. But, there is no way I would blindly follow an autoroute. First things first, I always go through the route to look at issues for correction. For instance, autorouting may...

    Autonomous marine travel

Glad you brought this up, JKlotz. I autoroute with Navionics now, but then go through every waypoint after I have established that the overall route will agree with the general direction I want. I then move it to TZ IBoat and from there it self loads onto my TZT3. The new XL Furuno plotters...

    Shout out for Furuno service

I spoke with Furuno about their new XL plotters. It has a much more powerful CPU than the TZT3. It will be interesting to see how well their auto routing works.

    The New Helmsman 46

I like the helm set up. Will be a great leading boat for the fleet!

Here is a video which is one of several sponsored by Furuno that shows the differences between the TZT3 and its competitors.

    Shout out for Furuno service

I agree. I haven’t spoken with anyone at Furuno in the past year that wasn’t on top of their game. Just a well managed company.

JKlotz, Check out the new Furuno XL plotters.

    Shout out for Furuno service

I agree, Garmin has some strong points. Have you checked out the Furuno TZT3? They did some work on their interface between 2 and 3 and it is much easier to use. They came out with a new CP introduced at the Miami boat show called the XL, that has a faster processor, has autorouting, and will...

    Shout out for Furuno service

Yes they do a great job, and I think their decision trees on their chart plotters is pretty intuitive. I had a bad experience with Raymarine (which doesn't make them a bad company by any stretch) when they sunset a year old plotter with no new software updates even though some bugs were still...

    Shout out for Furuno service

I have Furuno products on my boat. The primary reason I selected Furuno was their reputation for standing behind their products. I was having a problem with TZT12 chart plotter that continued to show an intermittent “fan not working” error message. With the winter layup, I sent the plotter in...

    dingy choices for Helmsmen 38E

We opted for a Takacat with an electric motor for our Helmsman 38E. The Takacat runs on two pontoons, and is very lightweight. The knock on the Takacat is that it has an open bow, and the potential for getting wet. We haven’t experienced getting wet yet, but I am sure you could in rougher seas...

Has YachtWorld.com dumbed-down its search options?

Thanks for the reference to yachtr.com. I went to the yachtbroker.org site, and it re-directed me to yachtr.com. I like the search tools. Looks like quite a few listings, too.

    Proper antenna

VHF specific antennas are tuned to 156 MHz while AIS specific antennas are tuned to 162 MHz. There are 159 MHz tuned antennas out there. I purchased one for my Vesper Cortex, for both radio and VHF and it works well. https://www.milltechmarine.com/customer_center/Morad-VHF_159HD_spec_sheet_LONG.pdf

Swapping AGM Batteries for Lithium Lifepo4

The E11 changes will affect the E13 policies also, based upon what I understood from the information that was shared. I could certainly be wrong about that, but don’t think I am. Anywho, we will see soon enough!

Swapping AGM Batteries for Lithium Lifepo4

Thanks Steve, I think with the technology changing quickly that updates to the guidelines are probably following suit. We will see when the updates are published.

Swapping AGM Batteries for Lithium Lifepo4

The source I referenced this from is working on E-11. He stated that it would be out around July. He is a credible source. I wouldn’t directly quote him without his permission, but certainly if someone else who is a member of ABYC wants to confirm, that would be great.
