    Cat 3208TA's exhaust elbow

Normally cruise between 8.5 knots at 1300 RPM to 9.5 at 1500 RPM. Above 1600 RPM the boat starts to climb its wake and fuel efficiency really suffers. I do try to operate for a short period of time each day at higher RPM when I am in an area that I don’t have to worry about my wake.

    Cat 3208TA's exhaust elbow

I am replacing my complete exhaust system on my 1995 GB42 with Cat 3208TA's that have 4200 hours. I pulled the exhaust elbow on the first engine and found a considerable amount of oily, carbon build up inside the turbo housing and in the exhaust elbow. Is this normal for this engine or do I have...

    Salon Door Locks

I recently needed to replace an exterior door hinge on my 1995 GB42. I went to grandbanks.com scrolled through to owners experience, then parts and accessories and filled out a general inquiry form. Surprisingly, I was directly contacted by the Malaysian office and was able to source the parts...

    Going through Norfolk

We traveled up the James River from Norfolk to Richmond in 2019 in our GB42 with a 4ft 2in draft. Depth up to Richmond is a non issue if you stay in the well marked channel. Tows with barges make daily trips on this route to the Richmond inland marine terminal. We were advised by Hopewell...

    1984 Caterpillar 3208NA OEM Alternator

I replaced my Cat 3208 TA 51 amp alternator with a small case 105 amp alternator. Although the cases looked identical, there was a slight difference in the mounting holes. When I attempted to install the new alternator, the case contacted the exhaust manifold before I could adequately tension...

How low to run fuel tanks?

No worries Rather than worry, if possible, just stop and partially refuel some place short of the cheap fuel location. Just put enough fuel in that you will be comfortable with your arrival fuel. You may not save as much money, but perhaps not worrying will be worth the difference.

    Weather "Window" Advice Needed/Wanted

We have a 42 Grand Banks Classic and live on the bay in Poquoson, VA. We just came south last week with 10-15 on the beam and had a really uncomfortable ride on our boat. You don’t get “rollers” on the bay, just short, steep waves with little interval between them. Because the bay is so wide in...

New Member with leaking GB42 cabin window.

I am the owner of a 1995 GB42 Classic which we keep at Whitehouse Cove Marina in Poquoson, VA. We took “Red Eagle” around the Great Loop in 2015 and are planning the Downeast Loop this year. I am currently replacing a leaking window in the aft cabin head. I have removed the exterior teak...
