    Honda Genset Housing

Pretty sure the boat the little genny rides on can be dangerous if used incorrectly;)

    Honda Genset Housing

I believe I was the one who asked for pictures of your enclosure. I had seen a home made enclosure locally using an over-sized Rubbermaid bin with sound deadening insulation and extended exhaust but I didn't quite like it. I may emulate your enclosure. Many thanks.

    Long lasting gas engines?

to Barpilot: Marin retired from this forum I believe. I am sure that there are many personality types amongst GB owners. Treat it as a buffet and take what you like. I also suggest the same for this forum :-)

    Best Claw type anchor

I agree that Danforths can and do work in reversing current situations within certain paramaters. I use one exclusively, and we have 10-16 foot tidal swings two times a day. No problems to date.

    Older and affordable trailerable trawlers?

The price of an outboard is far more than than the price of dropping a new crate engine into an open cockpit. C-Dorys can't be had for less than $40K. The OP could get a Bayliner Explorer 2670 as they come up for sale once in awhile. I found the following specs from a listing: 1982 - 26' 7"...

Insurance: hull coverage vs. liability only

The OP asked two questions: if liability only policy is wise for a sub $50K hull, and if so, how much liability would be enough. My answer to first question is yes, and the answer to the second question depends on the financial position of the owners. If neither couple has much in the way of...

What to Consider When Abandoning Ship

No insult taken psneeld. It may be simplistic, but keeping in mind that your own boat may still be the safest place to be may save your life. Simple is not necessarily the enemy of survival

What music instruments do you carry on board?

air guitar and I drum on the helm. Getting a bit old to play lead, may have to play rhythm

What to Consider When Abandoning Ship

If you read the well written books detailing the 1979 Fastnet Race and the 1998 Sydney Hobart Race where hundreds of boats were blasted with 70 knot plus winds collided with currents creating steep unpredictable waves in excess of 50 feet for over 24 hours, the take away is you don't abandon...

I replaced my original tanks with Moeller (plastic). No problems, issues or complaints

    Anchor choices

Eric: My mistake, my WM anchor is a traditional, which is just a Danforth. Again, it holds great where I use it. If I anchored in varied bottom materials, not sure what I would use ...

    Flooring material

What holds your carpet in place and keeps the edges from curling, velcro?

    Anchor choices

Eric: I use a WM Performance here in South and Central Puget Sound where the bottom tends to be mud. Even with the 10-16 foot tidal swings it has held and pulls up thick quantities of mud as she comes up.

How much do you run your genset in PNW?

From Memorial Day through early October 2013 we ran our 1800 Ryobi maybe 3 hours total. Much of that was to clean up using my little shop vac from time to time. I have gone propane for cooking, grilling and a propane coffee maker. We have a large 5 gallon sun shower which also provides hot water...

Engine dies at 1300 RPMs and won't start....

I saw you posted this elsewhere, but contact Summit Racing and tell them what you have. They will give you the options for a marine "plug and play" set up. The most common is Petronix I believe, but Mallory also is out there as well.

Engine dies at 1300 RPMs and won't start....

Yes. It could cause it to work for a few days or longer and then quit. Example from this past September: my boat stalled on a Friday run to a state park. Restarted and it ran fine. Sunday it stalled about 45 minutes into our return. It restarted. Week later, the boat started fine. Exiting the...

steaming with one engine on a twin powered trawler/cruiser

You will find that the smaller rudder(s) just require a different skill set from your sailing days. Copious use of forward and reverse at slow speeds is required for maneuvering as opposed to simply relying on the giant rudder you had which was effective at 1 knot.

Engine dies at 1300 RPMs and won't start....

Sounds like the ignition. They sometimes fail for the last time exactly as you describe. I have had two different pertronix units fail in the last four years in the manner you expereinced. One was on a Ford and I have no idea how old it was. The last one was on a Chevy and the entire distributor...

    Best Inflatable for a Dinghy?

I went thru this two years ago. I purchased a Zoom (by Zodiac) 8 footer with slat floor. I run two dock lines thru my swim platform, and with the flick of a wrist I get them under the bow and stern of the dink. Pull ever so easily from the cockpit and up comes the dink to ride on the platform. I...

    Swimgrid re-do

After spending sometime on the wooden boat site, I left my swim grid unfinished. It is about 50 years old and looks great when wet, very gray when dry, but the wood is sound. From what I read on that site, teak needs nothing, and any coating is for aesthetics.

    Tollycraft 34 tricabin 350 omc

Look at S&J Engines in Spokane. I sent mine there for a thorough remanufacture. Good warranty, good reviews and shipping is very reasonable. My boat is/was in Olympia and the RT shipping was not much.

boat in salt water- me 8 hours away...

I keep my boat in salt water 120 miles from home in a covered slip up in Olympia, WA. I have had zero problems. I too keep 2 fans running and the interior doors and cabinets open for airflow. In the dry season, (May thru October roughly) we use the boat every weekend, but the balance of the...

    Anyone from Portland Oregon?

GFC lives in a much different climate and ecosystem than you find in Portland. If you get 300 days of sunshine in Portland, the end shall be near :-). My point is that for boaters here in Portland, you either go left, or you go right. You see the same scenery coming and going. You cruise under...

    Anyone from Portland Oregon?

I live in Portland metro area but keep my boat on Puget Sound. River boating isn't for everyone, as the choice of going east or west only can get old. Some do love it, but we appreciate the variety and salt of the sound.
