    PNW prop work needed

I keep my boat in Olympia and it seems that Tacoma Propeller is the go to in South Sound.

Dinghy storage ideas for a small boat

On my 28 footer I bought a small inflatable about 8-9 feet in length with aluminum slats. I have two ropes tied to my teak swim platform. while standing on the platform I flip one rope around the stern of the inflatable and the other around the bow, I hop into the cockpit and pull the rope ends...

    Bilge Paint

Having done mine the "right way" with Bilge Kote", I would suggest just as good a way would be the 1-2-3 primer and top coat with gray alkyd porch paint off the shelf at Home Depot or Lowes. I don't think I gained a thing using the marine alkyd except the privilege of spending another $30-50.

    Bayliner "trawler" vs Mainship

Listen to Eric. He knows way more than I do about these things.:thumb: I trust him.

    Bayliner "trawler" vs Mainship

As for gas engine precautions, bilge blowers are a key. Run them religiously before start and even after shut down, as gas in the carburetor(s) can stink. Check all of fuel lines and tanks to make sure all is tight and sound. I replaced my 48 year old fuel tanks this past year as I just didn't...

    Bayliner "trawler" vs Mainship

Your fuel burn above a hypothetical hull speed is not linear. Once you get above that hull speed sweet spot, fuel burn goes up rather precipitously in most boats.

    Long lasting gas engines?

There is nothing quite like an older wooden boat with a hardtop. The new running gear just makes it sweeter. Running it like a trawler makes it cheaper and longer lasting.

    Food Waste

we pack it out, unless it would have utility as crab bait. That being said, one of the sillier things we witnessed last year was someone shucking about a dozen ears of corn into the water. I am sure it caused no harm, but it didn't go away either and was not aesthetically pleasing.

    What would you do?

You are not naive. We have to live our lives and do the right things when called upon. The lawsuit concerns posted on this thread are in my considered legal opinion out of touch with legal reality, but in touch with popular notions of legal risk as garnered through media reports. Again, as a...

    What would you do?

If ya ever boat over here there are enough of us who will lend assistance that you would be all set. We don't all live in fear of the "what if" nor with a generally cynical outlook. Might as well not leave the house if that is a paramount concern. I do appreciate the OP going back to check the...

    What would you do?

My experiences have been quite the opposite. But always recall, anyone can file suit in this fine country for the cost of the filing fee. It does not mean that the matter was meritorious or that damages were recovered.

    What would you do?

There are statements of law posited in the final 2/3rds of that case that do pertain. It recites the duties of each party and the concise statement of what constitutes negligence. It also states that be it a private party or the USCG, what those standards are. Thus by analogy, there is good law...

    What would you do?

I have lived all over this fine country, and my opinion might be different if I was boating on the other coast. Sad, but true. Here in the PNW, I truly would not think twice. Just my opinion based upon experience, not an east v. west thing.

    Long lasting gas engines?

Marin is correct. Be an "A" or be an "F". Everything in between is a yawn in the entertainment world. Peace, out, Boyscout(s) No Comment.

    Repowering from Gas to Deisel

We are fortunate here in the Puget Sound area. The three closest fuel docks to me all have non-ethanol gasoline at the fuel dock.

    Can You Color Topside Paint?

The blue stripe on my boat is Sherwin Williams DTM waterbased Acrylic Industrial Enamel. The "DTM" is short for "direct to metal". I know the product so I had no issues using an acrylic. Some folks seem to think it will wash off when it rains and freak out at the thought of such a product. It is...

    Can You Color Topside Paint?

Yes the material can be tinted. Whether you can find a local paint store to do it, I don't know. Your best bet would be a small independent shop. They will also likely be able to get quarts of industrial enamel in a variety of colors that will do very well for your application even though you...

    Under Used Boats

my marina in Olympia WA has many boats that I never see leave their slips. Most of them are in covered moorages which are not cheap. I have chatted up the staff at the marina and they tell me the owners keep mailing in their monthly payments and maintain insurance as required. I spotted one that...
