    Batwings (stabilizers)

This is what I ended up doing. First impressions are that they will do what I was hoping for but unfortunately while on the slip I made some modifications to the exhaust that aren’t quit going to plan so haven’t been able to give it a good test.

    Batwings (stabilizers)

My boat looks like it would be a perfect candidate for the batwings and this is the first I have ever heard of them. I was going to put paravanes on and I still could at a later date but am now thinking when she goes on the slip in march I will fit batwings. Google is not telling me much on the...

    solar panels

I wanted a Bimini so just got a frame made and used the flexible panels as the top stuck on with sikaflex. I measured the area that I wanted to cover then ordered the panels that size would best cover and in my case 180 watts. More than happy with results but I'm sure it's not to everyone's tastes.

    Solar/wind energy

    Solar/wind energy

The semi flexible lightweight panels that I have are supposedly the most efficient on the market at 20 plus percent, they are only less than a year old but so far no complaints.

    What Do You Fly?

Every time we spray this property the farmers son clambers around the hills videoing. This is about the 5th one he's done (not all me) and he seams to have a real talent with the camera and editing.

    Portable Generators

Another member of the solar panel cheer squad. Put the money you where going to spend on another noise maker towards some light weight flexible panels and a good oversized charge controller. Solars something you can do in stages if planned out so more panels can be added later if needed then you...

Solar in PNW: actual output per Summer day?

First up I would like to say what a beautiful vessel. I installed 2800 watts on my old girl and I know it's overkill but I had the room and I designed the Bimini so that the top was covered only in the flexible panels sikaflexed to the frame. On a normal day my batteries are chockers by midday...

Hendo's Randall 35 Cray Boat complete rebuild, Perth, Western Australia

G'day Matt, Have been following your progress closely and as a fellow Aussie wooden boat tragic I say wowww, your a brave man and from what I can see you have really done the old girl justice. It's not easy keeping the old style lines but modernising her to the comfort levels and room required...

    Getting out there

Good on ya Benn, that's a trip I have got on my list when my kahunas grow considerably larger and I can find crew that will trust me. 12.5 litres average from the old Gardner at 7.5 knots is fantastic in those seas. Cheers, Adam

    Recording/Tracking Vessel Roll & Pitch

Still here quietly lurking and learning. Haven't been out much lately with work getting in the way but Christmas is looking good for a few days afloat. Look forward to saying g'day If you do make it over and if you need a place to berth let me know. Cheers

    Recording/Tracking Vessel Roll & Pitch

If you have got an iPhone/iPad search for gtgboating in the App Store, that should do what your looking for. I went searching a while back so I can get some hard data on paravane stabilisers that I'm getting built but unfortunately still waiting very patiently for the trial. Cheers, Adam

    Another Failed Float Switch!

With a wooden boat and a 12 cylinder Detroit my bilge floats get a good workout and I have had my fair share of failures. Oil and crud that jams up the float draining the batteries was the main culprit and having the power in the water was always a concern for electrolysis. My fix although...

    new trawler owner downunder

G'day Brenton and welcome to the dark side, Looks like a good solid lump of wood you got there with lots of potential. Don't be scared of sikaflex, thats what all the shipwrights down my way use and swear by it. Adam

    Flooring

I redid the wheelhouse last year and being a tight arse went with the wood floor that you just click together and lay it on a silver underlay, only took a couple of hours to put down and I am more than happy with the results. Adam

    Tidahapah Refit

After talking to a few prawnies and shark fisherman I decided to go with pipe down to the fish and all the fish is a 700mm round plate with 10mm round bar welded around the edge. Been told they are quieter at anchor and work in both the up and down of the roll but there are a lot of different...

    converting 12v starters to 24vdc

Hi Paul, I have changed all my lights inside and out to 24 volts and am finding a lot of the LEDs these days can run on 9-28 volts, don't ask me how. When I first started looking it was a bugger but now it doesn't seem to be a problem. I have kept a couple of 240volt lights for emergency but...

    Tidahapah Refit

G'day Benn, Good to see the progress and I especially look forward to seeing the stabilisers go on and getting a report on what you think. Hope to have mine on by the end of the year but you cant rush these things. Are you going with chain down to the fish or solid pipe? cheers, Adam

What was the biggest boat that you have singlehanded?

I only started doing this recently. Didn't know if it was a correct technique or not but i found the rudder position in reverse made little to no difference so I thought why bother. much much easier, quicker and safer as you just have one thing to do, shift from fwd to reverse.:popcorn:

    Best adapted pet

Alsatian lab cross, bit of a log to lift on and off at 40 kg. Loves the water and loves fishing but its a bit of a nuisance when she combines the two. Toilet training involved plucking a weed that she piddled on before and putting it on fake grass on the back deck, it took her a couple of days...

    South Australian Cruising Boat

Gday Steve, Im over at Port Lincoln so I will see you floating past with your bed sheet up and go on and take the bite on, you only live once but this may shorten it. My old girl is a bit hard to hide so if your over this way keep an eye out for an unusual looking prawn trawler. Adam
