    Insulation options behind hullliner

In deference to the drunken rage aspect of the thread I just drank a bottle of Cap'n Morgan's rum and flung handfuls of fibreglass pink dipped in glue around the hull until I was satisfied.....insulation and pink monkey fur all at once, right? It looked great when I was drunk, now ....not so...

    Insulation options behind hullliner

I am going to have to give this styrofoam idea some consideration. I am guessing you mean closed cell foam? Should I score it in a diagonal pattern to maximize flex?

    Insulation options behind hullliner

Ahh yes the original 'monkey fur' was still in the boat when I bought it. How many albino monkeys gave up their lives, oh the humanity!! All kidding aside there was surprisingly little problem with the 'fur' except that the adhesive was breaking down and it was sagging in spots. I had initially...

    Insulation options behind hullliner

Thanks Keith, There is a place in Surrey that sells it, though they advised me to glue it down to the fibreglass hull, so I am not sure they actually know what they are talking about as that is at odds with the article you linked to.

    Insulation options behind hullliner

Hi all,I am redo-ing some hull-liner in my boat, and as it is beside the berth I thought I would insulate it. Initially I was going to use foam (or foam backed vinyl), but was counseled against this because of potential for degradation. I would like to put in some sort of insulation because I...

    Success of TrawlerForum

This board is by far the friendliest boating board I have ever been to. The advice is excellent and disagreements are treated as if being discussed among friends over a pint. TF is like going to your local for a pint after work. Why wouldn't you come back? Aaron

    Thanks for the great advice

It has twin Merc 302's (some had 350's), so it has adequate power but is not gentle at the pump. I had noticed how different the hull shape was when I pulled it, a couple of friends of mine have had Uniflites and both gave me the same advice as you, basically takes a bit of time to learn and...

    Thanks for the great advice

Good eye! It is a Uniflite Mega. It's in good shape, but since I've got it on the hard at the moment I am doing a bunch of winter projects on the boat at the moment.....eliminating 70's shag carpet and the like! Cheers, Aaron

    Thanks for the great advice

Hi all, I put a pic of my non-trawler on my profile! Hopefully one day I will have a lovely trawler on there but for now this is the boat! Aaron

    Student project: your opinion please

Hi Gallardo, I have a couple of thoughts on your project: 1) When you build an item to fit everyone, it ends up fitting no one at all. The reality is that boating is a niche market to begin with, and boats designed for niches are more likely succeed than boats designed to do it all (ie. it's...

    Why a trawler?

Another thought, yachtworld is occasionally buggy with my browser (Safari) and in addition to clearing the search form rather than overtyping I have on a couple of occasions also had to clear the cache to get the search to run properly. If you are running Safari and previously did a Mainship...

    Thanks for the great advice

Hi all,I wanted to give a quick thanks to this forum for the great advice. This is by far the friendliest boat forum online and the advice is great. After a few posts and pms from you I've decided that a trawler is probably not the best fit for me for now and we have decided to go with a re-done...

    Life Jackets for Kids

Mark: "I don't think it's safe to take toddlers on boats" Mark, it is unsafe to take toddlers anywhere, they are the craziest most unpredictable people on earth. The problem is that they don't learn how to be safe responsible humans in a bubble. I can say it is far more difficult than I ever...

    Life Jackets for Kids

Since you all have been so helpful in my boat search I have another question...I have an almost 2 year old daughter who will be coming onboard. I will arrange the cabin so that she cannot escape but when on deck I will want her in a life jacket. She has been fine in various life jackets at water...

Appropriate engine for Pacific Northwest cruising?

Well as long as I pick a definition above that fits almost anything I buy will be a trawler!

Appropriate engine for Pacific Northwest cruising?

Thanks for all the thoughtful replies! I think I may get on a few other boats I before purchase based on that advice. It's important for me that the boat is easy to use and safe, and also that it 'seems' easy to use for my wife also. I think she will probably have more fun if we don't have to...

Appropriate engine for Pacific Northwest cruising?

Hi All,I am currently looking at purchase of a Nordic Tug 26 with the following engine: Yanmar Diesel 4JH2-DTE 88HP. This particular vessel is currently cruising the great lakes, so no tides and low currents. The owner says he runs with a usual cruising speed of 7 knots and a max of 9 knots. I...
