    Generator Replacement

I have a Kohler 6EOD that last year really drove me nuts. It would start, run for a few swconds and than shut down with a "OV" error code. I had the Kohler guy look at it twice and he could not figure out the problem. Finally traced things to a shorted winding. I pulled the generator off of the...

    Lehr 9.9 HP Propane Issues

AS quoted above: "{}To each their own, but I've always questioned the logic in buying these alternative small outboards. Small four stroke obs from the reputable companies are darn near bullet proof, reasonably priced (by boating standards), economical, powerful, light, quiet and clean running...

    Lehr 9.9 HP Propane Issues

I had one of the early 5HP models. Purchased it because it always started; until it did not. On top of the starting problem things just rusted to nothing. As stated, no one wanted to work on it. Basically, a good idea but porely excuted. I finally dumped it and got a Suzuki, 6HP, 4 stroke. Only...

    Another "What Would You Do?"

You can not fix stupid! Darwin proved right, again.

    Internet access or lack thereof

You do need a computer. You just call up the startup page and select the wifi you want. That is the only change required. Once made all devices on the LAN have internet.

    Internet access or lack thereof

Installed the Island Time PC system yesterday. Simple as can be. Assemble and follow the excellent printed directions. Total time, about 1/2 an hour. I have not mounted it permanently yet, so no cable to snake thru whatever. Something to look forward too. I plugged the cable into my old Linksys...

I have a Linksys Wireless router connected to two laptops, two MFD's and a printer. I will check out the MikroTik Groove.

    Internet access or lack thereof

I have a whole bunch of things on the boat, both wired and wireless, connected to a router. This is the boat LAN. When I have the boat at home, I have cable at my dock and I simply connect the router WAN port to a cable modem with an ethernet cable. Everything works and I have internet where I...

    cooking on board

I had a Tappan convection/microwave onboard. The convection function is dead and as far as I can determine their are no parts available. I would like to replace the whole thing. Does anyone have any brand suggestions?

Kohler 6 EOD starts than shuts down.

The generator has a dedicated start battery. However, there is a switch that allows it to be started from the house batteries also. The problem is the same, regardless of the battery selection.

Kohler 6 EOD starts than shuts down.

I recently had the generator serviced. Oil and filters were changed. After the service the generator started and ran. The shop than replaced the exhaust elbow. Once this was complete and prior to the installation of the sound shield, the generator started and ran normally. The sound shield was...

Unbelievable. How could this possibly occur?

If I remember correctly, their was some confusion between liters and gallons or kilograms and pounds.

FOUND President 42' trawler project $6,000

I would not own a boat with Volvo engines or Volvo anything else. Parts are VERY expensive or may not even be available. Some parts have ridiculous lead times. Calling Volvo for anything is a total waste of time. There are better choices.

    Boat Tracking real time

inReach I have used the inReach for years up and down the East Coast. It reports position every ten minutes and as far as I can tell; it has been accurate. I only use the tracking feature. Now that Garmin is running things, who knows.

Recommendations for best bang for your buck Radar...

There are a few new sonar systems that have a limited "look ahead" capability. They are not cheap and require a marine chart plotter (MFD) for operation. The conventional sonar or depth finder just displays a small part of the bottom directly below the transducer location.

Recommendations for best bang for your buck Radar...

Here on the Pamlico and Albemarle Sounds, most of the year, you can almost walk from crabpot to crabpot. Most of the floats are made from cork or plastic. Neither one of these materials is a good radar reflector. With the older analog radars and a flat sea if you fool around with the tuning you...
