    Lehman SP135 eng heat sensor

Bottom one is the overtemp sender. Don't just check it with hot water. Also check the overtemp buzzer. Mine was mounted behind the upper wheel. It was corroded so I replaced it with a simple buzzer from NAPA. Buzzer $4.95. Engine rebuild $19,446.95.

    My Anti-roll Bag Experiment

True. I'll bet no captain has ever thought: "It's getting rough. I'll go up on to the flying bridge so that my 200# dead weight will slow the roll period and make my passengers more comfortable." Or better yet: "Here comes a big wake! Quick, everybody up on the FB!" I'm sure the weight aloft...

New Wabasto heater on my Sundowner 30

I've bled the injectors, had the engine completely out, replaced the fuel lines, changed filters, had my fuel tanks opened and repaired, etc., all since installing my heater. I cleaned things up afterwards each time and no diesel smell in the cabin from taking air from the engine room. I'm...

New Wabasto heater on my Sundowner 30

Mine uses 100% internal air from the engine room.

    My Anti-roll Bag Experiment

And one could glue vinyl-coated polyester patches with a D-rings to the coupler in order to control the bag by tying it off. I would still be concerned about anything that still allowed the bag to bend/twist and effect the wave. The best way to control the bag would be a purpose built "bed."...

    My Anti-roll Bag Experiment

Just came across this as an off-the-shelf anti-roll bag (the 12" x 10' bag). It is longer than what I need and I would be concerned about how much knocking around it can take, especially if placed under the cowling where I have some fairly rough edges. It could only be filled about 30% to...

    My Anti-roll Bag Experiment

I also have a lot of storage space under the FB forward cowling. Unlike the area behind the seat boxes, the storage space extends an additional 5 or 6 inches on both sides, thus making a tank there a foot longer. This could increase the effectiveness both because of the water taking an...

    rocker stopper

They take a little thought to get the most out of them. Booming them out helps, but there are other things that are just as effective. One of them is to take care with spreading them out. All similar devices (like the Magma stopper), create some flow as they pull the water towards the...

Bilge Keel - Rolling Chock installation

I just started a thread about my anti-roll bag experiment.

    My Anti-roll Bag Experiment

My idea was to experiment with a strong bias towards the KISS principle. I’m not looking for a system that would need to respond effectively to 30-degree rolls or stabilization in 10-foot seas. I’m just looking to calm my boat’s “excessive stability,” caused in part by its large beam to length...

    My Anti-roll Bag Experiment

I thought I would post this as a separate thread instead of occasionally commenting in other stabilization threads. As with anchors, one’s choice of stabilization is based on the boat’s size, usage, location, etc., as well as the crew’s tolerance and the captain’s wallet. One of the things...

    In-hull vs. Thru-hull Transducer choice

I went with the thru-hull $180 transducer. Installation was simple. It cuts out occasionally, but my vintage DataMarine usually picks up when the Garmin isn't hitting. Both of them seem to lose the bottom for a few minutes for no apparent reason. The Garmin can be good to about 300' but...

Bilge Keel - Rolling Chock installation

While not quite a "bang," but I do seem to get more ocassional "slaps" against the hull. I just assumed that was caused by the the anti-roll bag making the hull less respondent to the swell/chop. I'll post a separate thread about my anti-roll bag construction, etc. For some reason my...

    New Regulations for Alaskan Halibut

"One size fits all" fishing regulations can be counter-productive. We just returned from +2 months in B.C., which has a minimum length for ling cod. I understand the reasoning, but with two people aboard and no freezer, catching the minimum size means eating cod for breakfast, lunch, dinner...

Bilge Keel - Rolling Chock installation

I was able to get some "data" on the effectiveness of my anti-roll bag when crossing from Friday Harbor to Point Wilson on Wednesday. For those of you familiar with this passage, you have probably experienced the swell that comes down the Straight of Juan de Fuca on your beam. The weather was...

Bilge Keel - Rolling Chock installation

I've wondered about this for awhile. One of the raps against anti-roll tanks is that it places weight up high to reduce the roll. But paravanes do the same thing, placing several hundred pounds of gear 10,15, or more feet above the center of gravity. It could be that just the overhead gear...

How accurate do you think your GPS position is?

Going up a river one time, I was following the channel and I noticed that the MFD showed me out in the woods. It just wasn't that accurate. On the return, I was up on plane and followed the track going in even though it went into the woods. Then I thought how do I know it's accurate then (and...

    Stabilization for a GB32

I looked at the available ballast bags, but couldn't find any that were long enough. The other problem would be that they are round. I didn't know this would be a problem when I made my bag and just happened to make it a "flat bag." It lays on the FB deck about 20 inches wide and three or...

    Stabilization for a GB32

The solution for me was an "anti-roll bag." About $160 invested. I fabricated a large bag out of vinyl-coated polyester. It required heat welding, which can be done as a DIY. I installed a fill port. Placed crosswise on the flying bridge to cover the entire width and then some. Filled with...

    Ford Lehman idle adjustment

The owner's manual for the Ford Lehman has a tiny picture of the injector pump with an arrow to the idle adjustment. It says to loosen the lock nut to adjust the idle screw. On the top of my injection pump is a lock nut on a screw but it has a wire securing it. In the picture, it is on the...

Ford Lehman 120 fuel return line?

Be very careful with that banjo bolt. You can find them in metric, but some of the standard pieces are hard to find. I had to source them by buying brake parts for vintage us automobiles. Turns out it was cheaper to buy the complete brake line system then to buy a banjo bolt from some of the Big...

    Asian trawler mast innards

My radar sits on a custom stainless platform done by a prior owner. I haven't really looked at it too much. The tabernacle mast would likely be the existing mast converted. Since there are no stays, the hinge would need to be substantial and the mast reinforced at the pivot point. That...

    Asian trawler mast innards

There is nothing inside of my (probably identical) mast on my Tung Hwa 30 (aka Lien Hwa Senator, etc.) It is hollow. The three bolts go through a built up teak shoe that fits inside the hollow mast. That teak is bolted to the deck and an aluminum plate (on the inside of the galley cabin...

Why take a clam shovel to BC?

In the past, I took a clam shovel and dug both inside and outside of Vancouver Island. A BC fishing license includes a shellfish license, and I always paid more attention to squirts at low tide than to which of the thousand "sub areas" I was harvesting in. I just checked the official BC rules...
