    Engine down towing a dinghy?

I've been towing our dinghy more during short hops & have always kept the engine up, however I've seen some boaters towing with the engine down. Is that for better tracking? It would seem to increase drag. Is there any accepted wisdom on this?

    Towing a Dinghy Question

Thanks for the feedback gentlemen. The dinghy is sitting on top of the big boats wave, so I think a bit more tow rope sounds like my first step followed by a bit of the dinghy's skeg in the water.

    Towing a Dinghy Question

Thanks psneeld. It tows well with the engine all the way up to about 12 knots, above that it starts to wander a bit. I'll try lowering it a touch & see if I get better results.

    Towing a Dinghy Question

We have started towing our dinghy more when making short hops rather than hoisting it up to the boat deck. What is the general wisdom on the outboard engine position while towing? All the way up or partly in the water so it acts as a keel?

DeFever 49 and Grand Alaskan 53 Design Plans

We are in Canada now. Not sure of our cruising plans this coming winter as the border may stay closed for quite some time. We are considering moving our boat to Nassau & cruising out of there this winter as I see they have just opened up again to boaters. How about yourself, any plans yet?

    Repositioning Florida to Mexico

Yes we considered shippers as well, but your right, no adventure there, that's what we bought our boats for! Where do you have your boat located, on the east coast? Perhaps if nothing else we can create a small group to travel, if not together, at least in proximity to lower the concerns about...

    Repositioning Florida to Mexico

Hi All, After 10 years of exploring the Bahamas & the Keys we are considering moving our base of operation to La Paz in the Sea of Cortez. It is a long cruise down to the Panama Canal & up to Cabo & La Paz through unfamiliar territory. I am wondering if anyone is aware of any groups that...

We have a sistership Grand Alaskan 60 with the same engines & I agree totally with your comments. Great boat, very comfortable & good value for the size. Somehow 8 kts just doesn't cut it when you can do 10!

    Gulf Islands Newbie

Hello all from Pender Island, B.C. After 20 years of cruising the Pacific NW we bought a trawler in Florida a few years ago & have been cruising Florida & the Bahamas. Finding the water pretty skinny there compared to the PNW!
