What would it cost to land transport my trawler to California?

It cost me $10k to move my boat from Michigan to Fl (about 1100 miles) last year.

For Sale: Sale or Trade Tiara 4000 for 36-42' trawler

I am seriously thinking of selling/trading my 1994 Tiara for a 36-42' trawler. A pic is in my profile. I have plenty of pix to share with serious parties. At trawler speed 8.6 knots 4.7 gph (2.1 mpg) but she will cruise all day at 21 knots, 31.6 gph and WOT at 27.4 knots 46 gph. New fuel...

I saw just such a device at the Palm Beach boat show this spring. I am thinking how much I would love to have it. The system I saw tied everything to a joystick and when you wanted left it controlled prop/s, thruster/s, etc via a joystick or remote. Forgot the name, but can be Googled. I also...

    VMSPC engine monitoring?

I too used it with my series 60 in my motor home. Never thought about using it on a boat but should work VERY well. Too bad my Cummins are mechanical (not really too bad :) )

The Ongoing Quest To Find Honest Marine Repair

For those in Jax and nearby, a little further south on the St. Johns at Green Cove Springs (approx 20nm south from Huckins) there is Holland Marine. I have used them for work and Tom Holland has always been fair and honest with me as far as I have seen so far. Before going to him I found a...

    Greetings from Jacksonville FL

Welcome and good luck with the Albin. It's great to have fellow boaters/cruisers on the St. Johns. Too many fisherman and not enough cruisers :)

    15-20 Knot Boats

When not doing 10 kn, will cruise at 21 kn and in "hurry home" mode can do 27 kn.
  11. Z

    What's your cruising speed.

At 1000 RPM, 8.6 knots 4.7gph for 2.1mpg. I usually do 1200 RPM (10 knots) and 10gph for 1 nmpg. Fast cruise is 2200 rpm 21 knots 31.6 gph .77 mpg and WOT is 2625 for 27 knots, 46 gph .68 mpg. For us, this is the best of both worlds. Most times we are at 10 knots or less.

    You want how much?

I appreciate your understanding and also the use of the term "in general". Although my boat cruises VERY comfortably at 9-10 knots (she doesn't really like slower), the fact that she can easily go sustained 21 knots (WOT 28 knots), I go fast most times because I am running out of time and my...

    You want how much?

RTF, "level headedness & courtesy" That's like Rodney King saying "can't everybody just get along". Wow, what a wonderful world if either worked. About ugly boats (or cars etc), in 1983, after a financial setback and needing a new family car, I bought a Toyota Tercel 4 wheel drive station...

Engine and electrical work in Jacksonvile

Thanks Ski. Yes the alternators are matched to the regulators. I should find out more tomorrow (I hope). I would really appreciate some part numbers of the Autolite products you used. I'm sure others here would also appreciate that info. Paul

Engine and electrical work in Jacksonvile

Thanks for all the suggestions and ideas. I took her in to Holland Marine in Green Cove Springs this morning and we'll see what they come up with. Donsan, although an excellent idea, mine are mounted to the stringers away from anything and are going to be as cool as the engine room allows. The...

Engine and electrical work in Jacksonvile

I have just blown my second *set* of Balmar regulators (aprox $800 a pair) and am just a bit upset. I am looking for a Cummins (preferably mobile) mechanic that also knows electrical/charging systems in St. Augustine or Jacksonville area of Florida. Thanks, Paul

To Run or Not to Run the Generator

Generators require frequent use, especially in the environment they live in on boats. Running them under load dries out any windings or other parts that have moisture and the engines will like you sooooo much better. IMHO, you should run your genny at least an hour a month, but 1 hr a week...

    Boat Lift vs Wet Slip

I have my boat on a 40,000 lb lift. I didn't run any cost analysis before doing it. My reasoning is maintenance is much easier. Any bottom work can be done on the lift. Since I also have a roof over the slip, sun damage is also minimized. I doubt that *my* lift setup will save me any money...

    varnished teak decks

Starside, our old 1929 35' ACF express spent most of her life in DC, her DC registration number was DC 225 A. The 225th boat registered in DC. We bought her from the original owner, moved her to Annapolis and cruised her for 5 years most of the mid-atlantic (sold her in 1982). She looked very...

Vinyl boat names in St. Augustine area

I'd appreciate any recommendations for someone to do a new vinyl boat name for our transom. Yes, I know most sign companies can do it, but like everything in life there are good and bad. I'd rather save myself the agony of the bad and hence am asking here. Thanks, Paul

    Webasto 2010

Although I haven't used the Webasto in a boat, I have used them for many years in motorhomes. I traveled winter and summer (spent many a winter night or more in the Rockies. I also never winterized my motorhomes (living in Maryland with very cold winters, down to zero at times) and let the...

Paint or Vinyl name on transom

Many thanks to all for the sound advice. On one of our former wood boats (1927 35' ACF express) the transom was so pretty we just couldn't bring ourselves to putting anything on it. Paul
