When in Benicia, our marina also gives a tenant discount. Don't forget about the grocery stores, they do it too.

    When To Charge?

ksanders and Moonstruck, Thanks for your explanations. I only brought up voltage and percentage because that's what the 2 people I talked to brought up and Chapman's did as well. Going by percentage makes sense to me.

    When To Charge?

FlyWright, I was somewhat wondering if it was specific to lead acid only, but after I read LarryM's post about number of cycles, I came to the conclusion that it would still be probably best to follow your graph. Do you agree?

Trawler vs Motor Yacht Running Gear

markpierce, at the rate you're going, it probably won't take you that long to get there either.

    When To Charge?

Thanks everyone! And, FlyWright, thanks for that chart. Guess I won't be using Chapman's recommendation very often. And ksanders, I already installed a battery monitor per post #1

    North, but not to Alaska

GFC, Understand that you should warn your wife that your boat will not show up on marinetraffic.com for much of the trip along the coast (this coast is much more remote than the east coast). You will disappear somewhere near Cape Flattery, a fair amount of Oregon and for most of Northern...

First night on new (old) boat.... LOW BATTERY!

Odd. I don't see any of the white stuff in the sinks themselves. If it came through the drains, wouldn't you expect to see at least a little bit there also (unless it was so slippery it drained back out again)? Did you clean them out before you took the pictures?

    When To Charge?

Last week I installed new AGM house batteries and a battery monitor. The electrician that helped me (I suppose technically I actually helped him) recommended I recharge at 12v and 50%. Another person said 12.2v and about 50-60%. Chapman's recommends 12.2v and 50%, which I'm inclined to follow...

Hello from a newbie on the Chesapeake

No, they don't increase the interior volumn of anything. What they do is change your working, or, instrument space. If you need to hang instruments, they're great. But, on most boats, if you need working space for charts, laptops, etc. they're a major detriment. Personally, I'm a big fan of...

    Just Joining

StuartT, I don't have a blog or anything. As for keeping family and work updated, it's not too bad. 1 or 2 stops for fuel (gas hog depending on speed) with obviously good reception, combined with the fact that if you're not too far off the coast (surprisingly, you can get a cell signal more...

    Just Joining

Made the trip several times, and am doing it again this week (headed back to Anacortes). Sorry Marin! (StuartT - eventually you'll learn what that means if you stick around on this forum):) passageweather.com is excellent and hasn't let us down yet. Just be patient if don't feel...

What am I...? Trawler or Motor Yacht...?

Ooooh! Can you say that on here? I guess it's probably OK as I've seen the mods use the word sh*t many times and nobody complained that I know of. Master and Commander - Great Movie !!!

    dragged anchor

Don once said that because of its strength, the indestructible Bruce would make an excellent "grappling hook" for anchoring in rocks. Thanks again, Brian I can vouch for that. I caught a big one last year!

    weather station

Update - the backlighting is staying on now! Just for the hell of it, I tried again after my last post and it hasn't turned off yet! I've done this maybe 10 times in the last couple of years since I've had it, and it always timed out and turned off even though it was plugged in to AC...

    weather station

Something of note - I have a Davis at home and the only problem I have with it is that it's difficult to read unless you have plenty of light. When you have the backlight on, it's no problem, but I have yet to find a way to keep it on (it times out, even when plugged in to 110V). I e-mailed...

    Crazy Boat Names

That was exactly my point in post # 17 However, I haven't laughed at one of them. But, as I said, I'm sure I would have when I was a teenager.

    Hello from a wantabe

Trawler Fest Anacortes is May 16th through May 19th, not the weekend of May 10th! Don't go the weekend of May 10th, or you'll be very disappointed!

    Crazy Boat Names

Does Beavis own one and Butthead own the other? Or, maybe Howard Stern owns both? Laughing at a boat that burned up? I must not have a sense of humor anymore as I see nothing funny about those names, or the burned up boat. When I was a teenager, maybe I would have.

Need Pilot 30 Lift Support for Motor Hatch

I just replaced a couple, and like yours, there is no way to use a fish scale where the attachment point is per the instructions. Calculating using their long math method seemed way too complicated, so I just weighed the whole thing and went from there. I added 20 pounds or so (I don't remember...

Need Pilot 30 Lift Support for Motor Hatch

From the website - The gas spring lift consists of three measurements: Extended Length is the overall length of the lifter with the rod out Compressed Length is the minimum length with the rod pushed into the lifter Rated Lift is how much the lifter will 'push' A 15" Extended length =...
