    Twin Engine Charging

I should have said that the house bank drops to 12.4 v within an hour. And. I've been told that I should start charging them at this level. I've done a lot of checking and making sure things are turned off, etc. , but didn't find anything. The electrician has also. At any rate, after reading...

    Taco Barge in the PNW

Thanks Rusty, I know of Penny's - haven't been there yet though. When we were in Nanaimo, the docks were all full because the weather was so bad and everybody was staying in. Hopefully this year. Marin, you might remember, that was when I caught that big rock with my (your favorite) Bruce...

    Taco Barge in the PNW

Thanks Marin for responding! But I don't think that's it (at least I hope not because we won't be going there). The one I saw did look like a small barge (or float) with no top. I may be wrong as my memory isn't what it used to be, but, pretty sure it was in the islands somewhere.

    Taco Barge in the PNW

I know this may sound crazy and not important, but someone familiar with the PNW may be able to save me. Here is my dilemma - Last year before we went to the PNW for the first time, I was doing a lot of research on the area, so that we could decide what our top priorities would be as far as...

Seems you may need a check list after all. Better add this to it.

One if by land, two if by sea

We had the same situation last year - charter or take our own boat. It was quite easy for us to calculate which was more economical. How many days chartering vs cost of hiring a captain, fuel and some added maintenance. Our break even was somewhere between 20 - 25 days of chartering. We knew...

    Twin Engine Charging

Thanks for your reply Bob. I was afraid someone would ask questions! Please understand that this part of boating is pretty new to me so please be gentle. At any rate, the house bank is 1000 amp hours (10 batteries) and the 2 start batteries are 8D's. It's supposedly wired now as a smart system...

    The ultimate trawler

Couldn't it also be called drivel? And speaking of drivel, I notice Mr Floyd has almost 1000 post in only a few months! Must be some sort of record! Ha Ha ! Sorry, I couldn't resist! All in fun.

    Twin Engine Charging

I'm having some electrical work done on my boat and am using a local, highly recommended marine electrician. He told me that my current charging system is not the most efficient as is, and is recommending that it be changed. He says that the best way is to have one alternator charge the start...

    Wood Boats...SCARY???

"Sucking it up" for a 6, 8, 10, or 12 hour plane ride where you can sleep, relax, have others cook & bring your food, and not need to take care of other people is nowhere even remotely comparable to what you're considering. And, your assuming that most of the others will enjoy it without...

West Marine Changes Price Matching Policy

+1 My business supplies excellent service & support & some people use us only as a showroom also. It's not cheap to run our business like this, but we think it's the best way. Needless to say I don't like it, but that's the way it is. Unfortunately, we'll always have people that take...

    Carnival Triumph

Mark, Didn't the NCL endeavor in Hawaii fail because of the high cost of employing Americans? And, if I remember correctly, it was extremely difficult finding enough American workers that were willing to work as hard as these crews need to.

    Recommendation for kayak or canoe

Rusty, Same offer to you as well as anybody else on the forum - if you want to try one first, come on over to Benicia an give it a whirl. You'll (and her) will be glad you did! Let me know.

    Recommendation for kayak or canoe

Up top next to the tender (probably can't make it out in my avatar). I need to use the davit to get it up or down from there though. However, if I'm not going too far to the next location, I'll just simply secure it to the stern rails on the swim platform. Very easy to launch and board.

    Recommendation for kayak or canoe

Iv'e got an Outfitter, 2 Outbacks, and a Tandem Island. They are the best, hands down. The Outfitter (2 seater) is on our boat as it saves space and the other ones are at our lake house. The Tandem Island is for sailing and is fast as you know what. All the others are especially great for...

    Gas storage

rwidman, It was a simple question that I too was curious about. And, I won't be at a gas station until probably Tuesday or Wednesday to do the "research" you imply that everybody should do before asking anything on this forum. Can't wait until you have a question. But that's just wishful...

Thanks koliver! I'm not sure I should've known that, but now I get it and it makes sense to me!

I understand the implication and maybe I should know this, but what exactly does "red lucky " mean?

    BBQ on board

I have a Magma Infrared and it also cooks extremely hot. Cook everything on low except steaks. For them, medium-low is plenty hot.

    BBQ on board

You're right as usual. Understand that I use this forum for knowledge and there are about ten members that I read every post that they put up because they're extremely knowledgable and what they say make sense to me. You are one of them (don't get too big of a head). I realize that other...

    BBQ on board

psneeld, You weren't even there to see the incident, yet you claim that it wasn't dangerous. Really? I respect your knowledge, but you seem to be in a bad mood lately, which from my perspective, takes away from this forum.

    Walking Sideways

Whew... Thanks for the replys. I thought I was losing it. I've read the article over and over and played out the scenerio hundreds of times in my mind, and I just couldn't make sense of it. I'll experiment next weekend and sleep better tonight! Neal

    Walking Sideways

Thanks for your reply Marin. I have doubts whether this will work on my boat as well, but I do want to experiment with it. However, before I do, I want to at least understand the theory and this article confuses me. Any thought on whether the writer made a mistake, or am I missing something...

    Walking Sideways

About a week or so ago, someone posted a link to this great website that I find very informative – http://www.captainhugenot.com. I can't find the post now, so whoever recommended this, thank you. At any rate, there is one article that I don't understand. It's regarding walking your boat...
