    Automatic Identification Systems

I don't get it either. My screen has never been crowded, nor cluttered up as some have described it. And, I'm not just worried about the big boys when its foggy. Also, a couple of months ago someone here also complained that some boats leave their AIS's on when tied up at marinas. Really...

Agreed. That's too much for the first visit with the limited time he has.

    Low Voltage disconnect....>

Personally, I would worry about buying from a company that can't even spell their product's name correctly on the label! Low Voltage Diconnect?

    Cruising the Pacific Northwest

Within 50 miles of the Vancouver area alone, you won't have enough time to see it all in 10 - 14 days. With only that much time, my recommendation is to not try to do too much, or else you'll end up missing a lot along the way.

    Automatic Identification Systems

Regarding class A, you are correct. However, for recreational boats, most have class B, which are much less expensive. In my opinion if someone is going to invest in in an AIS, might as well spend a little more (typically 300.00) and get the transceiver. Great tool and worth it to me.

    Vancouver BC Marina Recommendations

Thanks for the feedback so far! From the responses, it seems that False Creek has interesting places, pubs and markets, which is what we're after. Any shopping to go with that? And, what about Coal Harbour - is it similar at all? Walking distance is important.

    Vancouver BC Marina Recommendations

In all of our travels throughout the PNW, we've never managed to find the time to visit Vancouver in the boat. Well, this year, the admiral wants to go, so we're going (I let her get her way once in a while). Probably for 3 or 4 nights in June or July if space is available. I've done some...

    $140 insurance on internet order???

With the price you're paying, there's no way I would deal with a company that doesn't even provide a phone number. If it was a $25.00 item - then maybe I'd consider it, as there's not much to lose.

    Kayak Mounting Options

I don't think it's ridiculous. Mine is a 2 person Hobie Outfitter, 12'8" and about 100 lbs, not light weight, so the crane is needed. I've also seen kayaks hung on the outside of the rails which would allow more free space on the deck. But those were with light weight kayaks that could be...

    America's Cup 2017

That may have been your impression, but not at all close to what actually occurred. The boat that won the start won 12 races and lost 7. Oracle came back and won 4 races after being behind at the first mark, and NZ came back and won 3 after being behind at the first mark. After being behind...

    Earthquake on the water

Don't forget the lack of bugs, lack of humidity, lack of tornadoes and lack of hurricanes! And then top it off with the best climate, the most things to do, and also being one of the most spectacular and beautiful states in the country. How could anyone in their right mind possibly want to...

By the way, don't be surprised (or panic) if he drops off of these internet AIS tracking sites. He'll show up again later. They all have different dead zones, as evidenced by vesselfinder tracking him now, and marinetraffic not tracking him now. May change the other way around later.

He should be showing up fairly soon on marinetraffic.com and/or vesselfinder.com. You'll need to try both though.

Especially when he's alone, I've been assuming that he's using jacklines and a harness when dealing with the paravanes or something else on deck. But, it's unwise to assume anything. Does anybody know for sure if he has/uses them?
