    The wife is worried...

Really? Where is your brightness level Mr. Guru? What actual good boating advice or knowledge have you ever given to anyone? I'm getting tired of the personal attacks on this forum.

    The wife is worried...

I can't speak for him, but I suspect he didn't actually mean personal experiences, as that's usually the best information. He likely meant opinions or something else. So give him a break and relax. Unfortunately, he's one of the few informed persons left on this forum.

    Life Raft vs Survival Suit

Personally I would never consider going offshore without a life raft and therefore have a six person Switlik. However, in the recently closed thread, one of the persons involved said being warm and floating vs wet and in a raft seemed like an even trade off and it got me thinking more seriously...

    Journey of a Lifetime

If you're using marinetraffic.com, try vesselfinder.com also. It works better in many areas. shipfinder.com also works, but not as well as the others. At any rate, you won't find them much until they get south of Ft. Bragg. After that, you should be able to follow them all the way in.

    Nanaimo Marina info

You'll only be able to clear customs there if that's your first stop in Canada. If you're planning to stop anywhere in the Gulf Islands before that, you'll need to clear at Bedwell Harbor, or maybe Sidney if you're going up the west side. Watch the weather in the Strait. If the weather forecast...

Why would anybody regret over-built doors and windows?

Rub a Dub Dub, Four Men In A....

I'm sure you'll have a lot of fun. I've made this run several times and it's never taken over 80 hours except once when we were hung up in Neah Bay for a couple of days because of weather. That's with fuel stops also. And even though Stockton is about 5-6+ hours past Benicia, I'd be surprised...

    Chartering a 45' Northwest Trawler

Knowing how many people you intend to take on each charter would be important in estimating how much you should charge.

I-5 Bridge collapse over the Skagit

Keep dreaming, though it sounds good. Won't happen in our lifetimes as long as commies and terrorists are around. And that's fine with me. Too many enemies out there.

first time cruising the San Juan Islands

I'm sitting in Friday Harbor now. You'll love everything on your list. But, you have one major problem with your plans - way too many stops in that amount of time. You'll need to cut it at least in half in order to enjoy this wonderful area! Save some for next time!

    Boarding Ladders

Most important thing is that someone is able to extend it themselves from the water in case nobody knows they fell in.

    Good Bye Marin Faure

Agree with him or not, you must admit he was the biggest straw that stirred this TF drink. He will truly be missed, and, unfortunately it will be noticed that he's gone.

When Are the Seas Just Too Rough?

You won't be able to follow them all the way with marinetraffic.com. They will probably disappear around Cape Flattery and show up again just south of Fort Bragg. If they pull into Newport, it will work for a while, but even Eureka wiil probably not pick them up. Also, try vesselfinder.com. It...

When Are the Seas Just Too Rough?

We always call the CG whenever entering Eureka as we never seem to get there under perfect conditions, no matter how hard we try.

When Are the Seas Just Too Rough?

We made the run north last week and it was indeed a mill pond for the last day and a half. However, it was pretty crappy for the first 12 hours or so after leaving the gate. We use passageweather.com and it's never let us down. Also, the NDBC and the CG. Combined, you'll get a pretty good...
