    Winter Layup

Just returned to Florida for the winter. Put my 1984 43' MT Labelle into winter storage in East Booth Bay Maine. We had a great summer with no tropical storms! The few hurricanes stayed well off shore. Hate it when we have to haul out for a storm. Floating docks and very high tides put too...

    MT Help Please

looks like my 1984 Labelle Sundeck MT By coastal they mean that it has a lot of glass area that would be vulnerable in very heavy weather. They ride nicely in typical swells but I wouldn't take mine to Bermuda from Maine for example.

    1984 Marine Trader LaBelle

I have my boat listed for sale on YachtWorld for $97500. The Lehmans were the base engine for the MTs and are good engines. I have the twin Volvo turbo 165's which provide more cruising speed but who is in a hurry with a trawler. My MT has a good sized keel and hard chines which make for a very...

    1984 Marine Trader LaBelle

Back in the water!!! Just launched this week. Great to be out of winter storage and ready to enjoy the summer season here in Maine. Did a trial run with the new shafts and cutlass bearing and she ran very smooth. Replaced house battery which died over winter. Hard rains this week but not a...

    Fuel Filter Adapter Problem

Capt Tom Not sure why you need these two filters if you also have Racors inline. If you want extra filtration just use 2 micron filters in the Racors and eliminate the problem screw on set up. I have used 2 microns when "polishing" old fuel. I have the type with sight bowls so its easy to...

Just Bought a Marine Trader 40

Ford Lehmans are tough reliable diesels that are relatively inexpensive to rebuild compared to other makes. MT's usually have good solid hulls. Big roomy boats for the money. Water leaks are almost always an issue. Start with the headliners. Mine were clean and dry, no water stains. That would...

Just Bought a Marine Trader 40

Hey there Capt Tom. I'm about an hour away in North Tampa. I'm chasing one last small leak that trickles down the galley dinette wall when there is a heavy rain. There are outside drain holes in that trim "brow" that runs aft above the galley windows. I have unplugged it several times (chunks...

    1984 Marine Trader LaBelle

I have twin Volvo 165hp diesels. Installing new drive shafts and couplings and cutlass bearings (almost complete). Should be ready for spring launch. And the Labelle is a big boat. Probably more than I need, but great liveaboard for the money. She's a dry boat and my project list is almost...

    1984 Marine Trader LaBelle

Well they give you a lot of boat for the money. Strong hull, roomy liveaboard. Very suitable for coastal cruising but not a long range offshore type boat. They have a reputation for "leaky teaky" with water penetration to decks and around windows, but depending on age, that is pretty common with...

Looking for info on Marine Trader

Haha. I drank the Kool Aid three years ago. My 1984 43' MT has a beautiful hull and interior teak. Luckily the PO replaced all the window. It took me a full season to track down all the little leaks but eventually got it done. Surprisingly The head liners are not stained or discolored anywhere...

Just Bought a Marine Trader 40

Google, google and google some more. Try different variations of your make/model/year for both the boat and engines. Also I found it useful to make a drawing of my hull as though I was viewing it from a birds eye. looking down and all the decks and floors were transparent. I then crawied into...

    Do trawlers roll a lot?

While I have heard of such seas the only time I have seen them on the Atlantic or Gulf of Mexico is in inlets where the outgoing tide stacks up the incoming sea. This can be very dangerous but only a foolish boater would be caught on the beam. I've heard that the Great Lakes often see this...
