We run Rotella T1 straight 30.

    Mainship Fresh Water Pressure

Our MS 350 is the same, I replaced the inlet/regulator and it made no difference. We just use the tanks, 130 gallons lasts us one week and we are live aboards.

    Right size dinghy?

Usually, but not always. We have had quite a few times where the lockmaster has directed us to one side or the other due to lock issues or the load of boats within the lock.

    Right size dinghy?

Especially if you are going to run the canal. Wouldn't be too much fun trying to lock through with a dingy hanging out. There are alot of companies that make inflatable 8' dinks, we had a 7'11' dingy for years. Alot easier to handle than a hard dingy as well.

    Mainship 390 with cat 3126

The 3116 Cats they put in the 350/390's were all good. Ours is a 1997, 2050 hours to date with absolutely no issues. Run them at 2000 rpm or less and they will go forever. Most of the issues you read about were from the ones installed in large Sea Rays which were mostly over propped and...

    Interesting Erie Canal Article

We too have cruised the canal for many years from end to end. The increases in fuel that started around 2007 is what has really put a damper on recreational boating. Raising fees will only contribute more to the decline. NY taxes are the highest in the country already, surely the 55mm the...

Traveling from Montreal to Albany, NY

Are you staying at Navy Point? We stayed there about 15 years ago and enjoyed it. Sacketts Harbor Brewery was nice and we enjoyed touring the battle grounds. We love the 1000 Islands, last visited in 2012. It's a 4-5 day trip for us from Buffalo. Be sure to stop in Cape Vincent on your way...

Traveling from Montreal to Albany, NY

Lake Champlain does have a special rule that requires you to totally remove the discharge hose from your Y valve to your through hull. The normal rules of locking it do not apply. Not sure about grey water, but it does appear to be the case.

    Cape Coral waterfront property question

Off topic, but my son is in the CG and served at Station Fire Island for a year. We visited once and I have to agree with you that it is a beautiful island.

Turning Classic Yachts into Beach Cottages

How about an airplane for a cottage? Or maybe as your next boat?

    Replacing Black and Decker Spacemaker

No such animal. The best you can do is to keep watching Ebay for a good used one that is under $400!!! For the life of me, I cannot understand why B&D stopped making such a popular item. We have one of the first Mainship 350's that didn't have the coffemaker nook. We mounted a spacemaker...

    Cape Coral waterfront property question

Our plan exactly! Not to mention that the boating up here is much cheaper. Very reasonable seasonal dockage and winter storage. Cruising dockage is usually free or less than $1 a ft for us. No salt water in the Great Lakes is also a plus. Keeping the boat up North and stored under cover...

    Wine question

Yep! We have one of these in our cockpit, can be used as a refrigerator or freezer. Holds about a 30 pack or 10-15 lbs of frozen food, your choice. http://www.amazon.com/Avanti-Function-Refrigerator-Freezer-VFR14PS-IS/dp/B00BHNVHII

    Wine question

We got one of these this year - holds 6 bottles, makes no noise and only consumes about 70 watts of power when running. Amazon sells them for $90.

    Cape Coral waterfront property question

We are doing the same thing, only we are planning 8 months in Florida, 4 months in Buffalo on our boat. Florida residency gets you some nice tax breaks. Our condo is not on the water, but very close. We are at the southern end of CC right across from Rotary Park and a short distance to...

    Cape Coral waterfront property question

We just bought a condo in SW Cape Coral. Currently living on our boat in Buffalo, will leave her up north for the winter when we move down in September.

Any advice for traveling between Rochester and Albany?

We've done the whole canal system 2x+ times. Haven't gone out lately, as we have been enjoying our new location on the Niagara River. I have a canal information section on my website at RochesterBoating.Com

Where is your shore power receptacle located?

Our Mainship has this setup. So either bow in or stern in works for us.

    Uneven fuel usage

Our Mainship 350 with the same tanks, different engine, does the same. Do you have dual fuel gauges to monitor each tank? I simply shut off the fuel feed from the port tank when they get about a quarter tank apart. The return line stays open and the tanks slowly equalize. My boat does have...

Mainship 34 Trawler vs. Ranger Tug 29

I think he is looking at the newer model - he mentions a 200k price, you can buy 4 or 5 of the older ones for that much!

    Steel jon boat for dinghy?

Yes, I guess the correct wording should have been swamp, not sink. As a kid, I swamped a john boat going down a boat wake and she turned turtle real quick, engine under water and fish gear gone. Will never happen with an inflatable.

    Steel jon boat for dinghy?

Short of having a catastrophic double tube failure, you can't sink a dinghy. Not so with a jon boat. They can be swamped pretty easily if you get in some rough stuff.

    Winterizing Engines and Boat

The 4% discharge of a lead-acid battery PER WEEK is no where near correct. We leave our boat on the hard for 5 months and when we return in the spring I am still seeing 12.6 volts, which is pretty darn close to fully charged. It is imperative that you do disconnect the batteries and make...

Extend range, lower fuel burn, folding props?

I heard the same story, but it was California to Hawaii in the version I saw.
